Could opposition to a proposed #copper mine in Arizona determine the fate of the #USelection? And if it does - what opportunities and responsibilities does that present for Canada? Canada is - and needs to be ever more so - the supplier of choice for #criticalminerals to America. Be it copper for electrification or #nickel for #nationalsecurity - Canada is a safe bet to help America and our NATO allies stockpile these essential materials to protect our borders, our economies and our environment. We need to build more mines and #mineralprocessing - on both sides of our border. #canpoli #cdnpoli #mining #energytransition #energysecurity #energytransformation #lithium #graphite #rareearthelements

Greenland acquisition could raise US companies' market value by $1 trillion Russia must focus on enhancing the valuation of its mineral resources in the Arctic Region, Alexey Chekunkov emphasized MOSCOW, January 10/ The United States could increase the valuation of its companies by $1 trillion if it takes over Greenland, Russian Minister of Far East Development Alexey Chekunkov said. "Credit must be given to the US; they are experts in monetizing resources. The top ten US oil companies have a combined value of $11.3 trillion. If we theoretically assume that Trump transitions from rhetoric to action and gains control over Greenland’s resources in some manner, the projected increase in US company capitalization would be $1 trillion," the minister said on his Telegram channel. Russia must focus on enhancing the valuation of its mineral resources in the Arctic Region, Chekunkov emphasized. "What is the significance for Russia? I would advise against overstating it. Firstly, the US already has a military base in Greenland, and Alaska is closer to us in any case. Secondly, our Northern Fleet addresses strategic concerns in the Arctic Region. Regarding natural resources - we should focus on efforts to enhance the economic value of our mineral assets," he noted. On January 7, US President-elect Donald Trump stated that Greenland should become part of the US to bolster national security and counter Chinese and Russian threats. #business #finance #financialservices

13 Jan 22:50: Greenland 🇬🇱🇩🇰 ready to work with US 🇺🇸 on defence, says PM: Europe: 13 Jan 2025, 18:56: Updated 3 hours ago: REX/Shutterstock: Greenland's Prime Minister Mute Egede during a press conference on 10 January: Maia Davies: BBC News: Greenland wants to work more closely with the US on defence and exploring its mining resources, its prime minister said on Monday. Mute Egede said his government was looking for ways to work with President-elect Donald Trump, who has in recent weeks shown renewed interest in taking control of the territory - without ruling out using military or economic force to do so. Also on Monday, Denmark's foreign minister said it was ready to work with Greenland to “continue talks" with Trump "to ensure legitimate American interests" in the Arctic. Greenland, a largely autonomous Danish territory, lies on the shortest route from North America to Europe, making it strategically important for the US. It is also home to a large American space facility and has some of the largest deposits of rare earth minerals, which are crucial in the manufacture of batteries and high-tech devices:

The first U.S. Quadrennial Supply Chain review, released this month, details the supply chains critical for national and economic security, and includes the U.S. Geological Survey’s accomplishments mapping potential new sources of critical minerals in the U.S., compiling the whole of government "List of Critical Minerals", and tracking global markets and supplies of critical minerals. “The U.S. Geological Survey is providing practical, pragmatic science to understand U.S. reliance on foreign sources of critical minerals needed for industry, technology and national defense, and better map the geology of the nation to locate secure critical mineral sources at home. Funding under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has helped us accomplish the work set out by the Energy Act of 2020,” said Dave Applegate, Director of the USGS. Today, I had a productive meeting with Serhiy Voronin, the CEO of "DTEK Pavlogradvuhillia." We discussed, among other things, supporting communities in the process of preparing for the future closure of mines. To give you some context, "DTEK Pavlogradvuhillia" is a major coal mining company operating in Western Donbas (Dnipropetrovsk region). As of today, the company employs about 17,000 workers, over 2,000 of whom have been mobilized into the army. The average salary is 29,000 UAH, and the company extracts about 16 million tons of coal annually. The company is actively supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine, having allocated over 300 million UAH for various military assistance since the full-scale invasion began. In the conversation with Serhiy Voronin, we highlighted several key tasks that need to be addressed by communities in collaboration with the Association of Coal Communities of Ukraine for long-term success. The first task is to convert the heating system from coal to alternative fuels. Currently, most communities in Western Donbas rely solely on coal for heating. Therefore, the closure of mines will primarily affect those communities that are not developing new projects or working on creating alternative heating sources. The second task is to resolve the water supply issue. About 240,000 people are entirely dependent on the company's water supply. It is necessary to reconstruct the networks and modernize the equipment in the water supply system. Only after this can we expect stable and reliable water supply and reasonable tariffs. The third task is to create new jobs. Most mines in the region will be closed over the next 10 years. Therefore, each community needs to seek alternative sources of tax revenue. Today, the company pays 8.5 billion UAH in taxes annually, with about a billion UAH remaining in the region. These funds can gradually be spent and wisely invested during the mine closure process. Before the large-scale war, "DTEK Pavlogradvuhillia," together with the communities, developed several projects for alternative heating, job creation, and industrial development. In the future, the company intends to closely cooperate with the Association to revive, refine, or improve these projects, find the necessary funding, and ensure that the residents of coal communities feel safe and have opportunities for education, development, and decent, well-paid work.

Thanks to Seth Whitehead for this informative article on the Illinois Basin oil and gas industry’s important historical contributions to our nation’s industrial and financial strength. Illinois doesn’t just have an exciting history in oil production it also has a promising future! While most of the shallow, large deformation fold-hosted positive structure oil fields have been found, numerous subtle stratigraphic traps, patch reefs, carbonate mounds, fault traps and overlooked suliciclastic and carbonate facies trap plays remain to be exploited. The lower 2/3rds of the Paleozoic sedimentary rocks have also yet to be sufficiently tested. Illinois will remain a force for positive contribution to our national need for hydrocarbon fuels and feedstocks for decades to come.

THE PROBLEMS WITH COMMAND AND CONTROL ECONOMIC POLICY The Biden-Harris Administration is requesting / considering more debt financing to support a climate agenda through additional command and control economic policy. It's for lithium. You know, the stuff you really need, EVs. Price and wage controls are forthcoming with presidential candidate Harris. This is just the start. Electric vehicles need lithium batteries and EV sales are not present. You're buying it anyway through higher taxes and price supports if this continues beyond the November U.S. elections. Free market economies are best for resource allocation, not central planners within a government. https://lnkd.in/eh6y8cqG
