🌱 A EUR 44M high-purity sugar alternative factory to be built in Lithuania! Pentasweet is investing in Lithuania to revolutionize the global food industry. This will be only the second facility of its kind in the world. Supported by a EUR 28.5M loan under the "Billion for Business" initiative. This project aims to commercialize brazzein - a natural, high-purity protein considered one of the most promising sugar alternatives. Until now, only one U.S. company had succeeded. But thanks to a five-year collaboration between Lithuanian and German biotechnologists, a more efficient process has been developed. Paving the way for Pentasweet to bring this innovation to market. The city provides easy access and full support for all stages of business development, benefiting both Chinese entrepreneurs setting up in Rugao and international companies seeking easier entry into the Chinese market. Dao Foods will be hosting a breakout session at the Asia-Pacific Agri-Food Innovation Summit in Singapore on November 20. Since Gustavo is well-experienced in Serbian 🇷🇸 natural ingredients market, he shared some valuable key takeaways with us: 1️⃣ Sustainable production practicies. Serbia has solid technical expertise and good compliance with strict quality standards. It is also well-connected to the European market, enabling Serbian exporters to quickly adapt to sector trends and developments. 2️⃣ Good access to raw materials. One factor that called my attention when traveling in Serbia was the closeness to raw materials and producing communities. All in all, the potential to create short and impactful supply chains is immense. 3️⃣ Promotion as the bottle-neck. Producers and exporters could use more support in storytelling, particularly when it comes to their work in community engagement and rural development. Another area which could be further developed are associations. Having a common platform for exchange and collaboration amongst companies and other stakeholders is an important contributor to competitiveness, especially in a sector less visible compared to other bigger commodities. Gustavo concludes: “As a sector expert, I’m part of a greater strategy for the Natural Ingredients sector in Serbia, so I always ask myself how I can leverage my knowledge and contribute to connecting the dots in the market system. Because at SIPPO we work directly with BSOs, strengthening their role in the market system is essential. Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional RI (BRIN RI) (National Research and Innovation Agency) has teamed up with KIST(Korea Institute of Science and Technology) to launch an innovative smart greenhouse project in Indonesia, aiming to revolutionize the country's agricultural sector. [ Now in South Korea ] “4 regions in Korea competes to win the FoodTech Research Center Establishment" Enhancement of support for food tech and green bio industries, the government opened the establishment of food tech research support centers and expansion of dedicated funds and new R&D initiatives. From 2024 to 2026, support will be provided for the establishment of Food-Tech research support centers, each costing approx US$7.85M (KRW10.5B), over a three-year period. These centers, equipped with facilities and equipment that companies can collectively utilize, will support the development and technological validation of prototypes for Food-Tech companies. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has decided to prioritize the establishment of three research support centers in the areas of plant-based alternative foods, food robotics, and food upcycling, based on local demand surveys and industry feedback among the top 10 core technologies in Food-Tech. The time schedule has updated a bit as I checked with the department today as following; - Application opens: February 19-23th - Extended deadline: March 29th - Selection Evaluation: Early April - On-site Verification: Following week - Final Selection: by Early May < FYI > South Korea is divided administratively into 1 special city (Seoul), 6 provinces (Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Chungcheong: North & South, Jeolla: North & South, Gyeongsang: North & South), and 1 special self-governing province (Jeju). For this R&D center establishment project, Seoul didn’t apply. Gyeonggi has dropped, 4 provinces including the North and South part have applied. < Background> In February, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced the national major business implementation plan. The government plans to invest approx US$ 70.3M (KRW 94.1B) which takes 43.6% of Argil Food R&D total budget in 2024. Under the national plan, several projects with a divided budget will be opened timely. 3 major fields are smart agriculture, foodtech, and green bio. The projects include reorganization of R&D and activation of technology finance to support future growth industries, focusing on essential research such as specialized research by institutions and strengthening international collaboration. #foodtech #koreainnovation

Poland is the largest apple producer in Europe, so all events related to this topic generate great interest 🍎 In Sandomierz - the center of the fruit-growing region - the conference "100 orchards Sandomierz": summary of 3 years of the sustainable apple production project took place.
