#ArtTherapy's impact on #MentalHealth may rival that associated with #employment. I imagine this is even more true when considering #jobs that lack #meaning, #purpose, and #selfdetermination. I find #TactileDesign in the form of #CreatingArt or #Crafting to be incredibly important in my personal and professional life, whether unplugging from the day-to-day or (especially) when working through a #design problem for a client, when seeking a different perspective/positionality in my #research, or when #teaching #DesignThinking #engineering or #architecture students in #transdisciplinary environments. Taking time to value the #process assists in working through our own understanding while also enabling us to experience #joy and #connection along the way. This #intentionality is key because, as we know, it's not only about the #destination in #WellbeingScience, it's especially about the #journey when aiming for #flourishing. #FlourishingByDesign #ThrivingByDesign #CraftingABetterLife #TactileDesignMethods #FlourishingHealth #Wellbeing #HealthAndWellbeing
According to research, "the impact of crafting was bigger than the impact of being in employment. Not only does crafting give us a sense of achievement, it is also a meaningful route to self-expression. This is not always the case with employment".
