One mistake I see business owners make is setting up monthly recurring owner draws. I get it, everyone needs a monthly income and surely the owner deserves to be paid right?! Well, can the company afford the “salary” you’ve set for yourself? Owners draw should pull from the profits of the company. So I can pay myself whatever positive net income we earned that month? Not entirely. Here are a few questions to consider: 1) have you built up a cash reserve? 2) does the business have upcoming large expenses, such as annual insurance premiums? 3) what about monthly loan payments?
