HomeServices was the last major RE company to settle forcing homeowners to pay for buyer's commission. The future of who will pay for buyer's commission has not been defined by RE brokers. Will it be a 3% commission, a fixed fee for services performed, or an hourly rate for services will be at the discretion of the buyer. The seller will increase net proceeds but what will be the impact of the added cost to the buyer and the legal ramifications of not hiring a buyer's agent? Will a new service sector be created of lawyers, RE brokerages or title companies advising buyers on all required services to closing a RE transaction? As the old saying goes, "Necessity is the mother of invention".
HomeServices agrees to $250 million settlement
