As little as 10 years ago I had no clue about #Diversity and #Inclusion. I believed it was a 'tick-box' exercise and if I ever attempted to discuss it I was often met with sneers and #anger so figured it was just making things worse, not better. Then I chose to #learn more. To take the #risk and ask more #questions of people. I even spent a lot of time asking my #kids how they handle certain situations with people that are 'different'. It turns out that they were very much the #experts. They've never known an environment where they were #discouraged from #supporting someone that was different. It also meant that I'd a #safe and #comfortable space to ask really blunt questions. When I'd built enough #confidence to take further questions to people I worked with, socialised with and wanted to support, I was comfortable enough to be able to respond to those that sneered with #intelligent and #compassionate information. During those last few years I found a really great #resource that #helped me tremendously. #BetterAllies. Created by Karen Catlin who created the Better Allies book series. I have no affiliation with them. I read an #article years ago that was super practical and easy to put in action so I signed up to their email list and now every few weeks I get an email with 5 Ally Actions. They are usually really easy to #implement and I #learn something new every time. So, if you want to know how to do better and you are at any of the stages I mentioned above. Start here. 4moSadly it is still a tick box exercise for many organisations but it’s great to see things changing. Thank you for sharing this resource!
