Mysteries about Uranus that have baffled scientists for decades may have been the result of an unusually powerful solar storm that happened to occur as a spacecraft visited the planet, a new study involving UCL researchers has found! NASA's Europa Clipper has successfully launched, and it's heading toward Jupiter's moon Europa to learn if the ocean hiding beneath its icy surface can support life. The first NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration spacecraft dedicated to studying an ocean world beyond Earth, Europa Clipper aims to find out if the ice-encased moon Europa could be habitable. The spacecraft, the largest the agency has ever built for a planetary mission, is travelling 2.9 billion kilometers to Europa, an intriguing icy moon of Jupiter. Its main science goal is to determine whether there are places below the surface of Jupiter’s icy moon, Europa, that could support life. Processor technology from Frontgrade Gaisler is being used in both the platform and the payload of the Europa Clipper mission, including the LEON2FT and LEON3FT fault-tolerant processors. Perseverance views Phobos transit (2024) | NASA's Perseverance Mars rover used its Mastcam-Z camera to capture the silhouette of Phobos, one of the two Martian moons, as it passed in front of the Sun on Feb. 8, 2024. This is one of several transits of Phobos that NASA's Mars rovers have captured. By comparing the various recordings, scientists can refine their understanding of the potato-shaped moon's orbit, learning how it's changing.
