It's exciting to see the roll-out of programs that make it more affordable for U.S. households to switch away from gas cooking stoves and find relief from indoor NO2 pollution. Groupe Atlantic subsidiary in the Netherland, Orcon, has received an innovation award during the professional fair #vsk2024 for the HRC OptiAir, a ventilation systement with heat recovery capabilities. In addition to warmly congratulate the team (hi Sander Bruis 🌬 and Johan Verwoert, very nice picture of you), this award gives me the opportunity to talk about a very interesting topics, the link between ventilation and energy bills. Indeed, the link between indoor ventilation, air quality and good health is much talked about. But there is more to that : an efficient ventilation system, like HRC OptiAir will also decrease your monthly energy bill. How so ? The story starts with the fact that some human activities inside a residential building, like cooking, taking a hot shower or simply breathing, generate more humidity indoor than outdoor. This additional humidity creates two issues : it ends up condensating, so damaging your house, and it increases the energy required to keep your home warm : you have to heat up the water in the air and it is quite expensive. So it is required to ventilate adequately, in particular during winter, in order to balance the humidity indoor and outdoor. But just replacing indoor warm air by outdoor cold air is very energy intensive : in a moderately cold country like France, it is estimated that one third of the energy necessary to keep your house warm during winter is indeed used to heat this ventilated air. HRC OptiAir is a solution : it uses the temperature of the humid indoor air, on its way out, to heat the cold and dry outdoor air. So better health, better thermal comfort and lower energy bill. November 2024 A few days later than hoped for posting this out, but as we approach the close of 2024, I thought id give you my view on November at the National Pest Technicians Association. Well as no doubt people will have seen on social media, it has been an exciting and productive month for the #NPTA. Here are some of the highlights and accomplishments we achieved together: 1. PestTech 2024 Success and TAF Award Application Following PestTech 2024, which saw over 1,300 attendees, 74 exhibitors, and engaging presentations. #PestTech is also being consider for the Trade Association Forum Large Trade Show Event of the Year award!! Feedback from exhibitors was overwhelmingly positive: 100% would recommend #PestTech and plan to exhibit again. The event earned a 4.54/5 star rating, reflecting its value as a key industry event. Delegate feedback was also promising, with 86% of attendees planning to return in 2025 and a 4.51/5 event rating. We’ve already started planning improvements for #PestTech25 to ensure an even greater experience - Next year will be the best one yet!!! 2. New Membership Features for 2025 This month, we finalised several major updates to our membership structure and benefits: Our new home page, about us, and membership sections on the website are complete and now live, featuring an online application form and i can assure you that has been used already. We’ve added 9 new member benefits for 2025, including a 12.5% recruitment fee discount with stuart maxwell Recruitment, and a special deal with Powered Now and Bantham Technologies | Digital Data Capture !! Sneak peak we have 5 more being added as we speak, including the one we launched today via Dell Technologies 3. Newsletter Online Access November marked a significant milestone with the launch of the #NPTA newsletter in an online format. 4. Progress on Industry Representation We continued our work on strengthening ties with industry organisation's such as BASIS PROMPT, Royal Society for Public Health and it was great to be apart of the #CRRU press release. Attending the CIEH Pest Control Conference provided insights into emerging trends and challenges, which will help inform our strategies for 2025. 5. Planning for the Future November was also about building for the year ahead: We’ve made progress on restructuring our online training course offerings, consolidating information into a single, user-friendly section of the website – you can now book your space for these online as well! November was a great month, but we are all looking forward to closing the year on a high note. Alongside our co-signatories, we emphasise the vital importance of IAQ for health, the economy, and future generations. We call on EU policymakers to: - Recognise access to good quality air (including indoor air) as a basic human right. - Give as high importance to “indoor air quality” as “ambient air quality” in EU legislation. - Screen all EU policies and make ambitious proposals to ensure better IAQ in Europe. The manifesto is co-signed by AMCA Europe, AREA, European Partnership for Energy and the Environment (EPEE), European Ventilation Industry Association, Eurovent, REHVA, and GCP EUROPE.
