How do shipping companies expect their technology and fuel mix to look like in 2030 and 2050? That was the key question in a survey conducted by the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD), the Global Maritime Forum, and the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping. ✔ Two-thirds of all respondents (representing 20% of global capacity) have a view on their fuel mix in 2030 and 2050 ✔ 81% of respondents expect to use three or more fuel families within their own fleets ✔ No single fuel is expected to be the industry standard in 2050. Rather, it will be a mix of different fuels ✔ The internal combustion engine is expected to remain dominant until 2050, with fuel cells experiencing significant developments & emerging in niche applications -- #shipping #sustainability #futurefuelmix -- Link to full survey report: https://lnkd.in/epc-kmsk Slideshow made from extracts of this survey report

Transitioning from diesel to alternative fuels is crucial for a greener future. Hydrotreated vegetable oil (#HVO) is leading this change: * No New Trucks Needed: HVO works with existing diesel engines without any modifications. * Immediate Carbon Savings: Switching to HVO can slash carbon emissions by up to 80%. * Scalable and Ready Now: #Biofuels like HVO are already available and serve as a bridge to future solutions like electric and hydrogen power. But it's not just about HVO. Electric trucks are gaining traction with advancements in #battery technology, and hydrogen fuel cells offer high energy density and quick refueling, perfect for long hauls. Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is also making significant strides. SAF, produced from renewable sources such as vegetable oils, animal fats, and waste products, can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel. Moreover, SAF’s ability to be used in existing aircraft engines without modifications makes it a practical and immediate solution to reduce aviation’s carbon footprint. #DHL has committed to using 30% SAF for all air #transport by 2030, securing major deals with bp and Neste to supply over 800 million liters of SAF. Embracing these alternative fuels means significant environmental benefits while maintaining operational efficiency. It's a win-win for the planet and the industry. #logistics #supplychain #sustainability #innovation #electricvehicles #automotive #renewableenergy #climatechange

🚢🌱 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧! We're thrilled to share insights from the latest publication by the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMCZCS) on "𝐅𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩-𝐒𝐞𝐚 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠". 📈 Decarbonising the shipping industry is no small feat, and exploring all possible avenues is crucial. While alternative fuels are in the spotlight, this report highlights the potential of fuel cells as a game-changer for maritime decarbonisation. 💡 The report emphasizes the potential role of fuel cells in deep-sea shipping, aiming to decrease net fuel consumption and emissions. It suggests a phased approach, combining fuel cells with existing technologies for optimal results. There is minimal design impact as integrating fuel cells might not require major ship design modifications compared to using alternative fuels with combustion engines. Here are some key takeaways: 1. Understanding Fuel Cells: Unlike internal combustion engines, fuel cells convert chemical energy into electricity through electrochemical reactions, offering efficient and cleaner energy conversion. 2. Benefits Galore: Fuel cells not only promise efficient energy conversion but also reduce emissions like NOX, SOX, N2O, and particulate matter. They also boast fewer moving parts, simplifying maintenance. 3. Feasibility Analysis: Through meticulous assessment, the report explores the integration of fuel cells in deep-sea vessels, analysing their impact on energy efficiency, emissions, costs, and ship design. 4. Cost Challenges: High upfront costs for both fuel cells and alternative fuels remain a hurdle, especially without a carbon tax to incentivise cleaner options. 5. Long-Term Potential: The report indicates a brighter financial outlook for fuel cells in the long term, particularly with a carbon pricing mechanism. 6. Path to Decarbonisation: While the financial outlook for fuel cells remains conditional on factors like carbon tax, the report showcases their potential to significantly contribute to shipping's decarbonisation journey. This report serves as a compass for stakeholders across the maritime industry, offering guidance to shipowners, technology providers, and policymakers alike. Together, let's navigate towards a greener, more sustainable future for shipping! 🌊💚 Download the publication: https://lnkd.in/dK-_cnzv Feel free to share your thoughts and insights! 🚀 #ShippingIndustry #ZeroCarbonShipping #Decarbonisation #FuelCells #Sustainability #Innovation

Transforming ships for a cleaner tomorrow: Retrofitting to reduce carbon emissions 🌍🌱 In 2018, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted an initial strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships by at least 50% by 2025 compared to 2008 levels, with a long-term goal of eliminating GHG emissions from the shipping industry entirely. Considering that deep-sea vessels are typically designed for lifespans exceeding 25 years, it is imperative for the shipping industry to promptly prepare for this transition, including making decisions concerning the existing fleet. Retrofitting to dual-fuel technology provides an opportunity for current vessels to comply with the latest requirements of the International Maritime Organisation. This enables them to enhance their greenhouse gas emission performance thus ensuring their continued appeal as valuable business assets. At Eltronic FuelTech, we are proud of our expertise in retrofitting marine vessels, as we have successfully upgraded 22 vessels with our cutting-edge equipment. Recognizing the urgency to accelerate the decarbonization of the maritime sector, we actively contribute to the global transition toward zero-emissions shipping 🚢🌊🤝 #retrofitting #decarbonization #eltronicfueltech #tomorrowwithinreach
