The continued news about the troubled opening of the Co-op Live provides an important reminder that trade mark licensing carries both potential risks as well as rewards. Some immediate thoughts for brand owners: - Due diligence is key. Will the licensee be able to do what you are licensing them to do? What are the downsides if it goes wrong? - Commercialisation obligations. Particularly in more complex arrangements, consider including requirements as to what the licensee needs to do and by when. - Termination rights. Ensure that your termination provisions are strong enough to allow you to terminate if things go wrong, including if there is a risk to reputation. https://lnkd.in/gN4Qmi52

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Global Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, and what an incredible experience it was! Collaborations Galore: There’s a noticeable trend of collaborations between smaller brands and vintage brands. These partnerships are bringing fresh, nostalgic, and innovative products to the market, offering exciting opportunities for both established and emerging brands. “Always under promise and over deliver” I remember a story from Krept that he spoke about when Krept and Konan were booking their first shows at very small venues; they would go above and beyond to put on the best shows the crowd had ever seen. They brought the sound system and energy like they had sold out Wembley and were outshining the headliners they supported every time. This was the catalyst for their meteoric rise in the 2010s. This story always stuck with me – how can I make every touch point with HB42 and Nyfty like my Wembley arena? Whether it is the super personal service, hand-written notes, the highest quality packaging that you wouldn’t expect, or the after-sales support and copious amounts of samples that we send out. I can imagine that many other leaders of small-businesses are guilty of this overdelivering sometimes. Are we neglecting our own boundaries to over-compensate for an actual lack of confidence in our own service/product? It all comes from a place of authenticity, but is this mentality sustainable? Or are you setting yourself up for failure in the long-run? Would love to know your thoughts?

We’ve all been to those media events where you pay $5,000 for an 8x8 table and put your products on top of a tablecloth for reporters to look at. These events don’t really expose the media to the value of your products. So last year we created our own media event: Carve X. We invited about 50 reporters who got to play with our clients’ toys and games. People were riding our client’s electric scooters up and down the halls. Media loved it, saying they had never experienced something like that before. So this year, we did it again. With a twist, of course. We brought Carve X to Gen Con – the largest tabletop game convention in North America. Instead of being in the middle of the crowded show floor, we set up shop at a local restaurant just minutes from the convention center. We featured the latest games from brands including Upper Deck, Relatable, KessCo, Ultra PRO, Educational Insights, and more. With different gameplay stations set up throughout the venue, our 20+ media members could sit down and take in the essence of the games in a quiet, more relaxed setting. It was nothing short of a success and I’m proud of the team that made it happen – here’s to more Carve X in the future! #publicrelations #teamwork #partnership #mediarelations
