Steak or Seafood I was at a dinner during the APhA annual meeting and on this particular night, we were at a seafood restaurant. As a reminder, I am a farm kid who became a pharmacist. I grew up on beef, not seafood. As I looked at the menu, I didn’t have a good appreciation for many of the entrees. I asked my colleague, Mike, what he was going to have. He responded and asked me what I was thinking about. I said I was looking at a steak. After all, most seafood restaurants have something on the menu for those interested in something other than fish. Mike scoffed at my idea and gave me this advice: Never order steak at a seafood restaurant. I ignored his counsel and would go on to have one of the worst steaks in my life! It was not good at all. So, I learned my lesson that day. But the lesson goes beyond the menu offerings at restaurants. It applies much more broadly. It applies to who you learn from. You wouldn’t take scuba diving lessons from a sky diver. We live in a world of many voices. And many of the voices can be quite loud! But just because they are loud does mean they are wise. Who you learn from matters. It matters greatly. Be sure to learn from people who have traveled the roads you are traveling. #forpharmacy #forpharmacists #pharmacists #pharmacyleadership #leadwell #EveryoneDeservesToBeLedWell
Sea food is such a delicacy but I can't betray beef either both are yumm. But, Mike tried to save you bro, we shouldn't let any loud voice dictate us, be wise at choices.
Great story and advice! It's a reminder that expertise really does matter, whether you're choosing a meal or seeking guidance in life and work. Just as you wouldn’t order a steak at a seafood restaurant, it's crucial to learn from those who have genuine experience in the areas you're navigating. Always seek wisdom from those who have been there before you. Thanks for sharing this valuable lesson!
