Uh-Oh, is a weather system is moving in that could impact your event? WHAT TO DO? No way around it, having a conversation about whether or not you should cancel an event, any event, but especially a fundraising event, is hard. It just is. However, having this conversation as soon as you know that weather might cause a major disruption is important. If you need to cancel or postpone your event, do it as soon as possible so your guests don't have to keep thinking about whether or not they should go or just stay home. These conversations aren't easy but they are critical because ensuring guest, staff, and volunteer safety should always be the most important thing when faced with this type of decision. And remember that one of the biggest lessons we learned from virtual events is that we can have very successful virtual fundraising events so if you can't postpone your event, you can always go virtual. Today, I want to discuss a common mistake I have observed in non profit organizations when it comes to fundraising. It seems that many organizations lack a communication expert or someone with fundraising experience, which leads to this issue. It is important to understand that fundraising does not begin with creating flyers or planning events. The first crucial step is branding. Brand awareness is the first interaction you have with your potential donors. Engaging with donors helps to establish a community of advocates for your cause. The next step is to be "fundable." This means developing the skill of storytelling to effectively convey why your organization exists, what you do, where you are headed, and how you plan to achieve your goals. Fundraising is a continuous process, much like a marathon without a finish line. Therefore, I urge organizations to focus on branding before diving into fundraising efforts. #fundraising #nonprofit #mistakes #communications
