Dear AI Spam Commenters: it takes us 3 seconds to click to your profile, click Comments, and see how fake and low-integrity you really are. Dear LinkedIn: You're getting worse. It's getting unbearable. Instead of MORE community posts, AI-prompts, and lo-fi ways to unlock "Top Voice" badges nobody actually trusts, please *fix your platform* by *actually investing in product.* Sigh. The business world deserves so much better than Business Social Media right now...

BIG changes have arrived for sellers trying to grow their audience on LinkedIn. For those who missed it, LinkedIn is retiring the gold Community Top Voice badge (gold badge). From their announcement, it looks like they had trouble maintaining quality standards as these badges were awarded automatically to contributors, and not manually by their team. I suspect too many people were using AI to generate responses and posting non-value added content. If you have a gold Community Top Voice badge, your badge will expire within 60 days, depending on when it was awarded. However, the blue Top Voice Badging (blue badge) remains unchanged. This is an invitation-only program featuring a global group of experts whose content meets high trust standards, are constantly on the platform, and are the most engaged, prolific and thoughtful contributors in their fields. What lessons can we take from this change? 1. People buy from people. Your stories, perspectives and opinions are why people listen to you and buy from you. 2. There are no shortcuts – If you want to be an expert in your field, you must do the work. I can’t wait for the day AI automatically updates CRMs, but our networks and influence aren’t going to be replaced by AI anytime soon. Do you agree?

"If something is free then you are the product". I'm sure many of us are familiar with these lines, even though knowingly or unknowingly, we all are in the product list of at least one company. One familiar category of it, is - SOCIAL MEDIA. What are we giving them? one may ask. "DATA" is what we're giving them. By data, I do not mean favorite artist of yours, the places you want to go and the dishes you like. Its too deeper than what you might think of. From calculating the heatmaps of where you are mostly looking at, to where you could swipe next. Obviously I am not telling to delete your account and run away, it's not the solution too. But you can use them for your own good, to leverage, to acquire, to get exposed(in a positive way), and lot more. See how it shapes our minds and sows deadlier seeds, subconsciously.

I am truly concerned. I’ll try to be concise. 1. My facebook account: It’s been maybe 3 or 4 months since I noted that one, most of my facebook connections don’t post anymore and two, my account was flooded by “quite interesting” channels (not advertisment anymore, thank you) with not very known information (and pictures) about my favorite classic rock bands. Yes, they have been getting my attention (not my interaction though). 2. Mailing: Like everyone else, I had been reached in the past by different selling efforts. A very few valuable. Most of them spam. But also since mid 2023 I have discussed with some colleagues about a “template”. An outline, found in those new efforts… a. Hugo someone told me about you at least 3 times during lunch. b. I want to invite you to collaborate on a very exclusive opportunity writing a chapter/journal/whitepaper/research study. c. We are not selling. d. We could keep it anonymous. e. Yours truly… sketchy company (random website once you search it). 3. Friend requests on fb: A couple of weeks ago I received a friend request on fb from a person I have been trying (without success) to reach for months, in order to meet and discuss a possible collaboration on learning and development projects in the institution where he’s Dean at. From minute one it smelled because we have no relation whatsoever. A few minutes ago I texted him and he confirmed he DID NOT send me (or anyone else) a fb friend request, in months. Also this morning I read the article I include in this post. Please friends, Tech, innovation, disruption Professionals and public in general… What is happening? Should we interact different on social media? Should we adjust some new security features on our accounts and devices? Do we still have some real control and trust on our interactions online? Pascal Finette I would love to read your thoughts on this 🙏🏼 https://lnkd.in/dqP-ZQAx

LinkedIn collaborative articles might be the next growth hack you need! By contributing to 3+ articles, you will earn a badge as one of the top voices on LinkedIn on that topic. And one of the better features I have seen from LinkedIn team in many years. You can check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gd4AtBqT Here is how LinkedIn explains it: Collaborative articles are a new way to tap into the collective knowledge of the LinkedIn community so you can learn from experts across professional topics, ranging from the common “How do I get a promotion?” to the more specific “How do I advertise to Generation Z?” Collaborative articles are knowledge topics published by LinkedIn with insights and perspectives added by the LinkedIn community. These articles begin as AI-powered conversation starters, developed with our editorial team, but they aren’t complete without insights from our members. A select group of experts have been invited to contribute their own ideas, examples and experiences within the articles.

Two pieces of advice for posting on LinkedIn: 1. Be a reporter. 2. Don't ask for anything in return. --- The best LinkedIn posts -- not the ones with the most engagement, I'm talking about the BEST ones, where your intended audience derives actual value -- are insights from "inside the room." Think about the best reporting: it's derived from sources close to the action. So: what action are you close to? What can you comment on with authority? Your beat is your job. What tactics + strategies work right now for someone who does your job? Offer stats where you can. What DOESN'T work? This is just as valuable. Be as SPECIFIC as possible without giving away state secrets. What's the workflow? What vendors are you using? What AI prompts? What are you laser-focused on this month/quarter? What are you hearing + seeing in meetings? (Do not name names without consent or share information that would hurt people or relationships.) What's the vibe, industry-wide? What are you seeing in the marketplace? Be a reporter and don't ask for anything in return. Good things will happen. (See an example in the comments.)
