🔟 Today marks 10 years since relocating to Berlin. It's my 'Berlinaversary'. 🇩🇪 After moving from the US to Germany, I've leveraged this platform to boost my network in meaningful ways – sparring ideas, gaining collaborators, and finding ways to express and exchange perspectives on a blend of topics I care deeply about. 😅 📸 Although this picture is from a non-work trip, it relates to my work. We all need ways to unwind; walking is my key. It's how I get new ideas or get free from overthinking. That day, we were a pack of 11 people, including kids, attempting to descend a mountain in the Harz region of Germany. The trail sign was daunting: 'Proceed at your own risk'. 🥾 It was invigorating to trust oneself & one's boots. To help each other navigate steep turns and rocky terrain and emerge stronger, coordinated, and triumphant. I wish that for all of us here. Know how to approach something intimidating; be safe & keep going. I look forward to the next decade ahead! Happy to be carving trails with y'all. 🙌 cc: Oliver Aust, Rylee Mora, Ludvig Wärnberg Gerdin, Jay Anna Harris-Theis, Isabelle Flanagan, Stephanie von Behr, Emily Rose Jordan, PhD, Milda Bayer, Nina Mayer, Tim Rehder, Elena Marchesi, Laura Kool, Cate Lawrence, Ana Álvarez, Dr. Nakeema Stefflbauer, EMBA, Mali M Baum, Catrin Schmidt, Cephas Ndubueze & many more. #communications #vc #pr #startups #northstar

A profound delight in my role with the Austin Technology Council is the conversations I get to have with a cross-section of people in our tech ecosystem. When I took this job, I didn’t realize it would mean being part of so many discussions with interesting people from startups to multinational tech companies in the region. This week marks two years since I joined ATC, and it’s been an incredible journey. Austin has experienced amazing growth over the 30 years I've lived here (July 25th will be 33 years since I became an Austinite). Despite our regional population tripling, Austin still has a unique soul. But we can't take that for granted, and we must avoid becoming divided and siloed like many big cities. In today's ATC newsletter, I shared my desire to hear more stories from people and companies impacting the world. Our community needs to share more of the wins that happen daily. At ATC, our role is to ensure the good things about "Austin Tech" are known and celebrated. If we only read the national press, we miss the real truth—the NOW of Austin is a great place to live and work. Our city is vibrant and full of people creating technologies and building community. ATC is a grassroots organization, but I need to hear from more of YOU—the grassroots of our tech scene. Please email me at Thom@AustinTechnologyCouncil.org and tell me about the tech companies and civic-minded leaders who are the heroes of tomorrow. ATC is a community organization first, and a membership organization second. I seek anyone and everyone in our region who should be celebrated in story—in the newsletter, on our website, in our social media, and on the podcast. THANK YOU to those who have shared their stories and supported my efforts over the last two years. I am seeking to meet unique tech leaders who care about Austin and want to work together for tomorrow. From big companies or small, locally grown or with an office here, I want to tell the stories that matter NOW and for tomorrow. Whom do you know that I should meet? Or is it you? #AustinTechnologyCouncil #Ausitn #CelebrateAustinTech #AustinTexas #community

Cheers to the hard work and commitment of our ATC board and a big thank you to the local leaders who guide our ecosystem by serving other nonprofits. A community’s success is built on the dedication of civic-minded leaders willing to serve. Volunteers who step up are essential to the success of tech organizations and are at the heart of the Austin tech community. These dedicated individuals are the backbone of our region’s future, giving their time to help shape tomorrow. Thank you to each board member for your dedication to shaping our mission and helping us build a bright future together. ATC is just getting started. While we are a 32-year-old organization, we are constantly seeking fresh ways to ensure our community thrives as we continue to grow and evolve. We welcome leaders from all corners to join us—our community will only thrive with more voices being heard. The goal for everyone in a tech innovation center is to support and champion the growth of tech companies. Austin is a place where tech is being created to impact the world, and it’s crucial that we stay focused on this mission. ATC, along with other local business groups, is a grassroots organization, meaning we seek input from all aspects of the community. We are a community group first and a membership group second. This means everyone is welcome to attend our events and contribute to the dialogue within our tech ecosystem. We are looking for forward-thinking tech companies that want to lend their voices to shaping the future. When you help others win, we all win. #austin #austintech #helpotherswin

Take the stage. Friday marked the end of Italian Tech Week. Some legendary tech giants such as Sam Altman, Doug Leone, Sarah Guo, Mike Volpi, Jeannette zu Fürstenberg, and many others went on stage. But to me, the most important people who took the stage are those you see in these pictures: my team and our founders. I can't find words about my team that do justice to what they've done. I have only one word: gratitude. I am grateful for what you've done and deeply grateful to have you in my life. To our founders: this event is made for you. Vento and ITW were born to nurture and grow new founders in our country. Seeing you take the stage and claim the space you deserve is why we do what we do. After 48 hours of sleep, we're back in action and looking for the next founders to bring onto that stage. Applications for our venture-building program close this Sunday. If you want to start a venture, apply here: https://lnkd.in/dHA3qzHa . If you know someone who should, tag them in the comments. If you simply want to help us and believe in our vision, share this post. Founders, – you are the heartbeat of this ecosystem. It's your vision and resilience that will shape the future.

“Cool Things My Friends Do” (Las Vegas Tech Edition). Every Saturday I write a post, highlighting, the accomplishments of interesting people who have crossed my path. Since joining the Austin Technology Council, one of my favorite traditions when I travel—whether I’m giving a speech or just exploring on vacation —is to meet with the leadership of the local tech community. It’s incredible how much you can learn from people who are deeply invested in building vibrant ecosystems of innovation and collaboration. This week, while in Las Vegas, I had the privilege of connecting with three new friends: Ben Laifsky, founder of Tech Vegas, and two local entrepreneurs and community leaders, Gabriel Burgos and Joshua Stacy. We sat down for what turned into an energizing conversation about the Las Vegas technology scene. Their passion for their business community and their commitment to fostering collaboration and innovation was infectious. They are working tirelessly to strengthen the sense of community in their ecosystem, and their dedication is exactly what makes cities thrive as tech hubs. In my role with ATC (and as someone deeply involved with Technology Councils of North America (TECNA)), I’ve come to realize how important it is to connect with other tech communities. What it means to be a “tech hub” is evolving. Innovation is happening everywhere, and smart community leaders are working to unite the players in their regions. These conversations remind me that for my own community in Austin to grow, I need to stay curious about what’s working—and what’s next—in other parts of the country and the world. To Ben, Gabriel, and Joshua—thank you for the warm welcome and for the amazing work you’re doing to make the Las Vegas tech community thrive. I’m excited to follow your journey and see the impact you’ll have! Every week, I use this series (”Cool Things My Friends Do”) to highlight others who are making a difference in the world. Sometimes I’ve known these friends for years; other times, like this week, I’ve just met them. Either way, it’s fun to share the incredible ways people are making a difference. #Networking #CoolThingsMyFriendsDo #LasVegasTech #UncommonConnections
