Growing up, I experienced firsthand the challenges and barriers that many girls face, from limited access to education to societal expectations that stifled our potential. These experiences ignited a fire within me to advocate for change and empower others to break free from these constraints. By providing girls with the support and resources they need to overcome obstacles, we not only uplift individual lives but also build a more just and equitable society for all. This belief is the driving force behind everything I do, from mentoring young girls to advocating for policy changes that prioritize their rights and well-being. Empowering the Girl Child: Building Leaders for Tomorrow Today, on International Day of the Girl Child, we celebrate the power, potential, and promise of every girl around the world. This year's theme reminds us that empowering the girl child is not just about providing education but about ensuring they have the tools and opportunities to become the leaders of tomorrow. Girls face unique challenges, but they also possess unique strengths that, when nurtured, can transform communities and societies. From providing quality education and healthcare to promoting equality in decision-making spaces, it is time we invest in the future by investing in our girls. Every girl deserves: Access to education that equips her with the knowledge and skills to succeed. Equal opportunities in leadership, innovation, and entrepreneurship. By uplifting and empowering women from all backgrounds, One Million Mentors creates a diverse and supportive community where every voice is heard and valued. Over the past 5 years, we've supported over 2500 amazing young women. In the last year, 64% of our female mentees came from disadvantaged backgrounds, and 57% came from BAME backgrounds. This week, I had the most amazing experience with the girls at Government Secondary School, Lugbe. Initially, I was hesitant to go due to other commitments, but as Miss Hope wisely said, “When you start, you don’t want to stop, and the girls never want you to stop.” Her words rang true today. I shared my personal journey with self-esteem and how it remains an everyday learning experience. We discussed practical tips to boost self-esteem, improve academics, and focus on personal growth and development. The girls were full of questions, eager for guidance, and looking for someone to trust. It struck me how significant our influence can be. These young minds are impressionable and trust us to lead them in the right direction. Imagine the impact if someone with less honorable intentions were in my place. This realization reinforced the importance of our responsibility to inspire and empower them positively. I am deeply grateful to my sister at FellyFaith Foundation for this partnership. Together, we are making a difference. Inspiring girls to build self-esteem is crucial. It equips them with confidence, resilience, and the belief that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.
