Learn about the types of floods and how to reduce municipal flood risk with our new tool! 1. Intense rainfall flooding is the temporary inundation of normally dry land, independent of an overflowing body of water. 2. Coastal flooding occurs when seawater or freshwater—in the case of large lakes— inundates the land. 3. River flooding occurs when the flow of water in a river or stream exceeds its channel and overspills its banks. 🌊 Download the Check-Up (and report) for free and learn how you can prepare for the various types of flooding: https://lnkd.in/eXkm2SMw #MunicipalFloodRiskCheckup #tacklingfloodingtogether #floodrisk #floodresilience #climatechange #extremeweather

If you live in a region prone to wildfires, it's important to be prepared for the floods and mudslides that frequently follow blazes in rural areas. After a wildfire, the charred ground it leaves is far less able to absorb water. This greatly increases the risk of flash floods and mudflows during rainfall. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) describes this double threat from fire and floods as “a one-two punch.” Before residents can repair their fire-damaged homes, they often are hit with torrents of water or rivers of mud. Find out more about the details of how these two natural disasters can effect one another. https://lnkd.in/gdyy89m5
