The Path to Half report from Sustainability Victoria, published in 2020, lays out a bold plan to halve food waste by 2030. Now, as we approach the start of 2025, we’re almost halfway to the deadline—with a long way to go to meet this critical target. With 2.4 million tonnes of food waste generated annually, the stakes remain high: 📉 $6 billion lost in product value and disposal fees annually. 🌏 3 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions—a significant driver of climate change. 💧 29 billion litres of water wasted each year. One of the key strategies in the report is to convert food waste into animal feed, which could reduce consumer food waste by 20% (or 163,000 tonnes). This approach not only diverts waste from landfills but also frees up agricultural land currently used to grow feed for animals, creating a significant opportunity to reduce environmental impact. At Bardee, we’re already putting this strategy into action: 🐛 Insect Technology: We use black soldier fly larvae to upcycle food waste into high-protein feed for livestock, poultry, and pets. 🌱 Sustainable Solutions: This process supports sustainable farming practices and reduces demand for land used to grow traditional feed crops like soy. 🔄 Circular Economy in Action: By turning waste into valuable resources, we’re demonstrating how new technologies can revolutionise the way we manage food waste. At the same time, the cost of inaction is rising. Landfill levies in Victoria increase every year, making it more and more expensive for businesses to send food waste to landfill. By partnering with Bardee, businesses can not only reduce costs but also contribute to meaningful environmental change. The Path to Half isn’t just an ambition—it’s a roadmap for meaningful change. As we approach the halfway mark, now is the time for collaboration and action. By embracing innovative solutions, we can achieve these goals and create a more sustainable future. 💬 Let’s talk about how Bardee can help your business turn food waste into impact. #CircularEconomy #FoodWasteReduction #Sustainability #ClimateAction #BardeeImpact #PathToHalf

🌍 Continuing our journey to a more sustainable future, let’s dive into the fifth action on our list of 37 things we can do to help the environment through our food choices: "Compost our Waste." Here’s why composting is a game-changer for the planet: 1️⃣ Reduces Landfill Waste: Composting keeps organic waste out of landfills, reducing methane emissions and lowering our overall carbon footprint. 2️⃣ Improves Soil Health: Compost enriches soil with essential nutrients, enhances soil structure, and boosts its ability to retain water, promoting healthier plant growth. 3️⃣ Supports Beneficial Microorganisms: Composting fosters a thriving community of beneficial microbes that aid in breaking down organic matter and suppressing plant diseases. 4️⃣ Lowers Chemical Use: By enriching soil naturally, compost reduces the need for synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, which can harm the environment and human health. 5️⃣ Closes the Nutrient Loop: Composting recycles nutrients back into the ecosystem, creating a sustainable cycle that mimics natural processes and reduces the need for artificial inputs. Here’s how you can start composting: Kitchen Scraps: Collect vegetable peels, coffee grounds, eggshells, and other kitchen scraps. Yard Waste: Add leaves, grass clippings, and small branches. Compost Bin: Set up a compost bin or pile in your backyard, or use a composting service if available in your area. Balance: Mix green (nitrogen-rich) and brown (carbon-rich) materials to maintain a healthy compost. By composting organic waste, we not only reduce the amount of waste we send to landfills but also create a valuable resource that nourishes our gardens and agricultural lands. Let’s turn waste into wealth and support a healthier planet! 🌱🌾 Stay tuned for our next instalment as we continue exploring more ways to make our food choices environmentally friendly! 🌍💚 #Composting #SustainableLiving #ZeroWaste #SoilHealth #ClimateAction #EcoFriendlyChoices

🍃 Sustainability in the Food Industry: Reducing Food Waste and Emissions 🥗 The food industry is responsible for a significant portion of global waste and emissions. Around one-third of food produced globally is wasted, and the sector accounts for about 30% of greenhouse gas emissions. To tackle this, businesses can focus on: 1. Reducing food waste through better supply chain management and repurposing byproducts. 2. Adopting sustainable farming practices like crop rotation and regenerative agriculture to reduce environmental impact. 3. Minimizing emissions in food processing by using energy-efficient technologies and sustainable packaging. 4. Educating consumers on reducing waste at home and choosing eco-friendly products. Sustainable practices not only help the planet but can also reduce costs and boost brand loyalty as more consumers seek out environmentally responsible businesses. How is your company making a difference in the food industry? Share your ideas! 💡 #FoodSustainability #FoodWaste #GreenBusiness #EcoFriendly #BeResponsible #ikitar #DigitalKitarSemula

🌍 Transforming Waste into Opportunity: Building a Sustainable Future with Biofertilizers 🌱 Every year, the food and beverage industry generates vast quantities of waste. Although often overlooked, this issue presents an extraordinary opportunity for meaningful environmental impact—and at Dairyfert, we are dedicated to making a difference. When unmanaged, this waste poses significant risks: - Soil and water pollution: Harmful byproducts infiltrate soil and waterways, deteriorating essential natural resources. - Greenhouse gas emissions: Landfilled waste releases greenhouse gases, accelerating global warming and disrupting ecosystems. - Community health: Pollution from waste negatively affects the health and well-being of communities worldwide. However, this waste also contains nutrient-rich organic material with untapped potential. Through advanced processing techniques, we convert these byproducts into high-quality biofertilizers that replenish essential nutrients in the soil, creating a sustainable, closed-loop system that supports long-term agricultural health. At Dairyfert, we’re committed to redefining waste management by harnessing these materials for the good of our planet. Our mission is simple yet impactful: to repurpose food industry byproducts, reduce environmental impact, and support sustainable farming practices. #SustainableAgriculture #OrganicFertilizers #WasteToResource #SoilHealth #EcoInnovation #Dairyfert
