Today is National Engineering Day! Organised by the Royal Academy of Engineering, this day celebrates the critical role engineers play in shaping society. This year’s theme, "Engineering Role Models," spotlights the inspiring diversity within the field. By showcasing engineers from all backgrounds, the initiative encourages young people, especially those from underrepresented groups, to pursue engineering careers—an important step in tackling the UK's engineering skills shortage. The celebration includes digital art installations, community events, and public storytelling opportunities, allowing everyone to share, learn, and engage with National Engineering Day on social media. These efforts underscore how diversity in engineering fuels inclusive innovations and solutions for today’s challenges. National Engineering Day not only honours the transformative impact of engineering but also seeks to inspire a new generation of problem-solvers. ✨ National Engineering Day 2024: Engineering an Inclusive Future ✨ Today, we celebrate engineers who shape our world and inspire future generations. Did you know that only 15.7% of the UK’s engineering workforce are women and 11.4% are from minority ethnic backgrounds, there’s a clear need for more young people to see themselves in engineering. This year’s theme, Who do you look up to?, is all about recognising role models who inspire the next generation. Today, The Royal Academy of Engineering is unveiling art installations created by Kelly Anna, showcasing engineers as diverse role models. Nominated by the Academy network, 80 individuals were put forward, with the final figures selected by a panel and featured in stunning installations, including a larger-than-life sculpture, celebrating their contributions to diversity and innovation. We were absolutely thrilled to have had the Royal Academy of Engineering as a partner at Advanced Engineering 2024, where they truly showcased the inspiring power of engineering. It was a privilege to welcome students and apprentices who were eager to connect with industry professionals and gain valuable insights. Events like this give young people a chance to meet real-world role models and see first-hand the incredible opportunities that await them in the industry. Let’s keep inspiring the next generation to bring their unique talents to this dynamic field and help shape a better, more inclusive future. 🌍💡 Find out more about the Royal Academy of Engineering and #NationalEngineeringDay 👉 https://bit.ly/3YPrkEu #EngineeringForAll #AEUK25 #STEM #ukmfg #EngineeringRoleModels

National Engineering Day 2024 Led by the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng), National Engineering Day aims to make engineering and the UK’s engineers more visible. Yesterday was celebration of how engineers enhance our daily lives and help shape the future. This year’s theme for National Engineering Day is engineering role models. Research shows that engineering-specific role models are a strong influencing factor on young people to choose engineering. It is important that we are seeking role models to inspire the next generation to take on these careers. Many engineers find inspiration through family, teachers, or prominent figures in their lives. They can also come from childhood experiences, such as building projects or workshops, which can spark an interest in solving problems and making a positive contribution to society. In relation to the RAEng collecting nominations for the best engineering role models, we asked a few of our employees the question; who inspired you to be who you are today? We got answers of their parents, grandparents, tutors, and friends, all influencing them to take the path of engineering. It is imperative we draw attention to these inspirational figures, and encourage young people to achieve their ambitions. #NationalEngineeringDay #NationalEngineeringDay2024 #YoungTalent #Teesside #Skills #Future #Growth
