No one watches linear TV anymore.... 24m watching the UEFA Euros 2024 final last night between Spain & England, say otherwise! This is why broadcasters and rights holders need to take educated risks to move the needle with visual innovation and immersive audience experiences around these tentpole live sport events - always! Evolving TV and capturing those casual audiences in the process that think linear TV doesn't cater for them. England sadly lost, but broadcasters should be taking educated commercial and creative risks around this live sporting content EVERY TIME to win audiences longer term. Think additional wow water cooler moments using virtual production, AI and fan engagement around the live content. Last night there were not ANY creative visual risks around the live programming. #5G is already being put to use ahead of the upcoming Olympic games in France! 🥇🥈🥉 French national public television broadcaster France Télévisions is using a private 5G network to transmit coverage of the Olympic torch relay in Paris at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It has been broadcasting over private 5G for 10 hours per day since May 9, covering the Olympic torch’s journey of 1,625 kilometres 🚐 💡 The broadcaster is using a private 5G product, called a "bubble" Dome which can be deployed in the trunk of a car, making it an inexpensive and flexible solution. Sport Production Summit celebrates the successes and achievements of the industry with SVG Europe What a show that was! IBC 2024 kicked off with the SVG Sport Production Summit where one of the key themes of the show was laid out by Sky Deutschland’s Alessandro Reitano. His stark prediction of the looming dead end for traditional pay TV is matched by the innovation now available to take live streaming of sports to the next level. We agree with Alessandro about the imperative to produce more with fewer resources. And with the right systems architecture and mindset this is possible today. An efficient live streaming workflow which maximises bits per buck has to transport video over IP and connect virtualized production processes in the cloud.
