A question I get asked frequently is, “How does one know if they need a stylist?” One clear sign that you might benefit from a stylist is when you have a closet full of clothes but struggle to find pieces that truly reflect how you want to present yourself. This disconnect can be frustrating, especially when you’re trying to convey a specific image—be it professional, casual, or adventurous. If you find yourself often saying, “I have nothing to wear,” despite a wardrobe bursting at the seams, it may be time for an objective eye to help you curate a collection that aligns with your personal style. A stylist can help you identify gaps in your wardrobe and suggest pieces that harmonize with your vision, making the act of getting dressed a more enjoyable and fulfilling experience. Additionally, if your closet feels disorganized or cluttered, and you struggle to put together outfits for different occasions—whether for work, play, or travel—it’s a strong indication that professional guidance could be beneficial. A stylist can assist in organizing your wardrobe, helping you sort through what you own and determine what truly serves your lifestyle. This process not only frees up physical space but also mental space, allowing you to approach your wardrobe with clarity and intention. Finally, if you’re looking to update your personal style but feel overwhelmed by where to begin, a stylist can provide inspiration, strategies, and a roadmap to help you discover and embrace a refreshed look that feels both authentic and empowering. In essence, recognizing the need for a stylist can stem from a variety of challenges—be it a lack of personal expression in your wardrobe, disorganization, or simply a desire for change. Seeking professional assistance can be a transformative step, allowing you to unlock your style potential and navigate your wardrobe with confidence. After all, the way we dress is not just about clothing; it’s about expressing who we are and how we wish to be perceived in both our personal and professional lives. If any of these scenarios resonate with you, it may be time to take the leap and consult with a stylist who can help you redefine your style journey. Let’s chat.

I feel a bit hesitant posting about this, but I think it’s important and helpful. How much does your wardrobe say about your commitment to your personal brand? Disclaimer: This post is for anyone looking to build a personal brand or grow their business. So, here’s what happened. I had a call with a LinkedIn contributor focused on personal branding. Her profile was impressive, and I liked her posts and valuable content a lot. I was about 85% sure I’d work with her to help develop my LinkedIn presence. But then… I decided not to move forward because her presentation was off. She looked like she had just rolled out of bed and jumped on the call. This was so off-putting that I couldn't focus on our conversation or what she was saying. As a personal stylist, I always tell my clients to dress in a way that makes them feel good, using their clothes to build confidence, lift their mood, and help them present their best selves, even if they’re working from home on a laptop. First impressions are underrated, but it’s been shown to be crucial. Here’s why: ✅ Perception is Reality >> People form opinions about us within seconds, and appearance plays a significant role in that initial judgment. ✅ Confidence Booster >> Dressing well can significantly enhance your confidence, making you feel more competent and prepared. ✅ Respect and Credibility >> Showing up professionally demonstrates respect for your clients and yourself, boosting your credibility. Here are three ways to build a simple capsule wardrobe to always look your best: 1️⃣ Invest in Basics >> Quality basics like well-fitted blazers, neutral tops, and versatile pants can form the foundation of your wardrobe. 2️⃣ Add Statement Pieces >> Incorporate a few standout items that reflect your personality and style, making your outfits unique and memorable 3️⃣ Prioritise Fit and Comfort >> Ensure everything fits well and is comfortable, so you feel confident and at ease during your interactions. Think of your wardrobe as a marketing tool, an asset that can significantly impact how you’re perceived. P.S. How crucial is it for you to invest in yourself by curating a wardrobe that reflects and speaks volumes about you and your unique visual identity? On a scale from 1 to 10 ….? Share with me, I’m truly curious. 🙋🏼♀️ ——————————— If you’re looking to refine your style and ensure your wardrobe supports your professional goals, let’s connect. 🤝 As a personal stylist, I can help you build a wardrobe that not only looks great but also level up your confidence and credibility. There is so much garbage advice on elevating your wardrobe for work And it's hurting your progress. - Easy work capsule wardrobes promise multiple polished looks ready to go in seconds. - Must-have wardrobe lists suggest staple pieces to invest in - Investment pieces you must own if you want an elevated version of yourself And I get it. You don't want to spend hours shopping and searching for clothes. It's overwhelming. But in reality, - You are buying black suits and navy dresses and looking like everyone else, - Wearing neutral, generic clothes and the same outfits over and over - Investing in a wardrobe that has nothing to do with your style or your lifestyle. You are losing your voice in the process. You need to master 3 skills to build a wardrobe that will truly represent the powerhouse woman you are - 𝗔𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀—What types of clothes, colors, prints, and textures speak to you? Is it solid clean lines, delicate prints, or maybe romantic-inspired pieces? - 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲—We are all different. Knowing your shape and what looks good on you will help you pick the right clothes that flatter it. - 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿—Learning to mix patterns, colors, and silhouettes into multiple outfits without relying on capsule wardrobes telling you what to do. And that’s it! If you master those three skills, dressing yourself will be second nature. --------------------------------------------------------------- Hi, I’m Basia, an ex-celebrity stylist turned personal stylist for professional women! The Real Struggle with Personal Style: It's Not the New Clothes or the Wardrobe Cleanse It's the Consistency. We've all been there. You've finally decluttered your wardrobe, defined your personal Style, and maybe even splurged on a few key pieces. You feel fantastic... for a while. Then comes the business trip, the unexpected social event, or the inevitable life change. Suddenly, those old habits creep back in, and you find yourself staring at your wardrobe of clothes, feeling completely lost. The truth is, the hardest part of developing a personal style isn't the initial transformation. It's maintaining that momentum and applying those style rules consistently, no matter the situation. Yes, you can develop a 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝟱 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 and I can teach you that. But it takes years for your style to fully develop where you don't even have to think about it much - It's autonomous. So, how do you ensure your hard-won style lessons stick? Here are a 3 tips: 1. 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 "𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗜𝗻, 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗢𝘂𝘁" 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲: For every new item you add to your wardrobe, donate or sell one old item. This helps you maintain a curated closet and prevents clutter from creeping back in. 2. 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Before you hit the stores (or browse online), have a clear idea of what you need and what fits your style guidelines. Avoid impulse purchases, and focus on building a versatile wardrobe that can adapt to different situations. 3. 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘁: Write down your core style principles, go-to outfit formulas, and any specific guidelines (like colour palettes or fit preferences). Keep this cheat sheet handy when you're shopping or getting dressed. It's like having your own personal stylist in your pocket! 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿, mastering your personal style is an ongoing process. It takes time, effort, and a willingness to adapt as your life and preferences evolve. 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: What's your biggest style challenge? Share in the comments, and let's find solutions together! 📌 The thing about style confidence … As a personal stylist, I hear this all the time: “I want to feel confident.” The thing about style confidence is that you can’t just buy a wardrobe full of amazing pieces and expect to find lasting confidence. You may feel confident in the moment, but it won’t be sustainable. Style confidence is not something to be found — it’s something you build. Building confidence is like constructing a magnificent castle — it takes careful layering, dedication, and the right elements working together. Without one piece, the whole structure falters. Here’s my step-by-step guide on how to build your castle of confidence 🏰: 🧱 Lay a Solid Foundation: Recognise your inherent worth. Your uniqueness is irreplaceable, and your wardrobe should highlight the beauty and strength you already possess. Confidence starts with embracing your self-worth. ⚒️ Choose the Right Resources: Your wardrobe is your toolkit. Just like a building needs materials that suit its purpose, you need clothes that reflect the person you aspire to be. Ensure you have the right pieces to support your growth and transformation. 👷🏻♀️ Take Action and BUILD: Tools and resources are useless if they aren’t used. Don’t let your wardrobe gather dust — wear it with intention. Step out of your comfort zone, experiment with new outfits, and dress for who you want to be. Confidence comes from action, so start building by using your wardrobe to make you feel empowered. 🤔 Keep an Open Mind: Expect challenges and roadblocks. Stay flexible and open to trying new styles and outfits. If something doesn’t work, learn from it and move on. Adaptability is key to your confidence-building journey. Building your castle takes time. The foundation may seem slow, but once it’s laid, your confidence will start to rise. With each step, your confidence will grow stronger and more resilient. So, what steps will you take today to start building your castle of style confidence? Every effort you make brings you closer to the confident person you aspire to be. ———————————————————— Hi! How I’d Build a Polished, Work-Ready Wardrobe for a Six-Figure Leader (Step-by-Step Guide) 1) I would discover Your Signature Style - What are your favorite patterns, colors, or embellishments? - What style resonates with you most—classic, romantic, preppy? - What are your preferred silhouettes—structured suits, feminine blouses, leather skirts? I’d create a mood board that visually represents your desired style and reflects your unique personality. 2) Next I would analyze Your Shape You might align with one body shape or be a combination of two. Based on this, I’d recommend clothing styles (silhouettes) that enhance your figure. 3) I would curate your closet I’d evaluate your wardrobe, removing anything that doesn’t suit you or feels outdated. From there, I’d create a targeted shopping list to fill in the gaps. 4) My favorite part: Strategic Shopping and Styling I’d help you gradually add pieces from the list, ensuring they align with your style, lifestyle, and body shape. Then, I’d create multiple outfits, blending new additions with your existing wardrobe. 5) Lastly I would help you master outfit creation I’d teach you how to use contrast, a focal point, and the dress-up/down system to craft polished, versatile looks. Together, we’d create modern, refined outfits that position you as a confident, successful leader. When you look the part, the world takes notice. ---------------------------------------------- Hi, I’m Basia, an ex-celebrity stylist turned personal stylist for professional women and entrepreneurs! There are 3 problems you need to solve if you want your wardrobe to reflect your expertise. (And trust me, it's easier than you think.) - Figure out your aesthetic: You need to get crystal clear on the clothes, colors, shapes, and textures that speak to you. Saying "I like business casual" isn’t going to cut it. When you see an outfit on Pinterest or in a store that you’re obsessed with, ask yourself: what exactly makes you love it? Is it the cut? The color? The detail? This is the question you have to answer yourself! - Dress for your shape: Know your body and what looks great on it. Why does this matter? When you know what flatters your figure, you skip the trial and error and only reach for what works. Imagine walking into a store and instantly knowing which pieces are going to make you look amazing. - How to put outfits together: The magic is in how you put things together. You need contrast to keep your outfits from falling flat. Why? Because contrast—whether in textures, colors, or shapes— turns bland and generic into a refined and interesting. It’s that subtle difference that keeps people looking twice. Once you’ve nailed these, you’ll never have to worry about what to wear again. Your wardrobe will finally show off the authority you’ve earned. ------------------------------------------------------ I’m Basia, an ex-celebrity stylist turned personal stylist for professional women! Here's how to know if you've lost control of your wardrobe and what to do about it: 1. You waste a lot of time wondering what to hell to wear each day or for any event 2. You have tons of clothes yet still no outfits (the age old problem) 3. You have clothes in there with tags on. You think you like these clothes, but you don't know how or where to wear them 4. You often look around and feel other people look better than you There is a lack of clarity on your style if any of the above are true for you. You probably have mish-mash of a wardrobe and a few key gaps that are preventing you from finding outfits. Style and having a great wardrobe isn't about the "right" skirt, T-shirt or pair of shoes, but rather about self- expression, fantasy, projection, self-worth and identity so understanding HOW you want to dress and WHY is key here. It just takes a bit of working out. 1. The first step is always to declutter - brutally. Leave your emotions at the door - ask yourself "does this make me feel good anymore?" have you moved on? 2. Next step is the most important one - what is your personal style? Once you get clarity on this you can get clarity on your wardrobe. Use the 3 word method here - think of 3 words to describe your style. How do you want to dress and be seen? Describe it in 3 words. (check out my other posts purely on this topic) 3. Finally, work out the gaps. Do you have loads of pattern in the wardrobe and no plain basics? Do you have jackets to pull outfits together? Describe your wardrobe today, is it too casual, dated or dull? Creating outfits is a recipe and you need the right ingredients so it's really important to identify the gaps. People tend to buy the same things on repeat which just creates volume and LESS outfits not more. "Little things" like clothes - things that make you feel cheerful, optimistic, creative, inspired - really do matter. How would you describe your wardrobe today? ---------------------------------------------------------- Hi, I'm Lisa, Personal Stylist for professionals, leaders and founders. Do you ever find yourself "ageing out" of clothes. They no longer have the thrill or appeal they used have? You don't want to look like you're dressing like a teenager But are there things in your wardrobe you've always worn and now you don't feel like wearing them anymore? This is a sign you have changed but your wardrobe is stuck in the past. Embrace the fact you've evolved! I used to wear cut-off shorts all the time but now I'm older, they feel so wrong. Not because society tells me that's wrong (which society very much does!) but because I've moved on with my personal style. I want to look and feel different in my clothes these days, more elegant, more put-together and polished. I couldn't give a toss about any of that when I was younger. There is a sort of security that comes with knowing what you like. It feels like unfurrowing your brow, and that is very relieving Knowing your CURRENT style preferences is one less thing to wrap your head around in a day, one less stone you’re inclined to turn. That is also very relieving in a busy world. The fact is, my style interests and how I want to show up in the world have changed and yours will have too. The number of wardrobes I see that have really dated clothes from 10 years ago still astonishes me and I've been in this game for 15 years now. Try and work out: 1. Why certain clothes have lost their sheen (and why do you hold on to them) 2. How you want to dress and show up today. Describe it in adjectives - it really helps to get clarity on what you actually like. The great thing about your wardrobe is a glow-up is always within reach. If your wardrobe seems to be reflecting a past version of you. Switch it up! #personalstylist ------------------------------------------------------ Hi, I'm Lisa Gillbe, a personal stylist for professionals. Why I will never share a generic wardrobe checklist for Fall It’s officially Fall… and I’m sure your feed is flooded with fall trends, what’s in and what’s out, etc. I’m a stylist and even *I* get exhausted keeping up with all of that. So, I imagine you do, too. One thing you will NEVER see from me, that many other stylists & influencers do, is publish generic wardrobe lists, fall checklists, fall must-have trends, etc. And here’s why…. #1 Unique clients need unique solutions. When I think about my collection of executive and entrepreneurial clients, my little slice of the world, not one of them have the exact same style. So, how on earth would I be able to put out a Fall wardrobe checklist that suits all of these women, while still honoring their uniqueness? Not every woman wants... a black blazer a white button-down a pair of black loafers neutral colors Yet, this is what the generic wardrobe lists consist of. I know… I KNOW… wardrobe checklists are the easy thing you want. The list to check off. One and done. I hear women saying… “Just tell me what to wear.” “Tell me what’s in.” “How do I look relevant & stylish?” My answer for each of them is different. (and should be!) #2 (this is the BIG ONE) It goes against everything I stand for as a stylist. Everything that I am about as a stylist is individuality. It’s about personalization. Highly customized. Authenticity. I can’t possibly fathom how creating a wardrobe checklist would work within that theme of authenticity. I know that the easier route to finding your style is just looking around, and then copying and pasting. And to some degree, we can gather inspiration from others. But where you will really make waves, where you create a magnetic style that is as unique as you are, as your leadership style… that comes from within. Your personality & your leadership style likely weaved together from a myriad of sources and teachers - not just one source - that has become your own unique blend over the years. So, while wardrobe checklists can be a starting point, they aren’t the final answer. Looking within to find your style is not the easy route, but it’s the better route. And the one that will get you better results in the end. #personalstyle #style #stylist #workstyle #personalbranding #marketing #entrepreneur #publicspeaking #executivestyle
