Attracting and retaining a diverse workforce and giving everyone the opportunity to advance to senior leadership positions is not just a moral and ethical imperative - it's also a critical business priority. Research shows increasing representation requires a two - pronged approached; a) Recognizing and growing existing talent - Identify high potential talent, advocate for them in talent review discussions, provide opportunity for rotational and stretch assignments. In short build more thoughtful developmental and succession plans. b) Improving talent pipeline- Refocus external sourcing efforts on discovering, attracting, and engaging targeted talent. Redesign interview and hiring process to reduce bias. #TuesdayMorningThoughts

Unconscious bias is real. And it’s costing you top talent. Unconscious bias in hiring and promotions often goes unnoticed. It is one of the most significant barriers to creating an inclusive, high performing organization. This creates an environment where talented individuals may be overlooked. For talent leaders, the challenge is clear: how do we create a fair, merit-based system where every candidate has equal opportunity? The solution lies in structure and standardization. ➞ By implementing structured interviews, every candidate is evaluated on the same terms. This helps remove any bias from the equation. ➞ Additionally, standardized evaluation methods give clear, measurable frameworks for assessing talent. By using clear scoring systems, decisions are based on evidence, not instincts. As a leader, it’s an important responsibility to ensure that hiring and promotions aren’t excluding the best talent. Let’s build a talent pipeline that is truly inclusive and focused on potential, not perceptions. If you are in charge of leadership or talent development in your company and could use some new ideas, reach out to me and I’d be happy to help.
