TLC follows Forbes Travel Guide Looking at the world of luxury hotels as identified, we see a tremendous opportunity to RESET the Sustainable Business of hotel operations. Many colleagues around the world in hospitality have committed to change the way they operate their properties. We see positive examples of many embracing scope 1 and 2 reporting. We also know that affluent guests are looking at how well properties have a true purpose to protect nature and the embracing of scope 3 - supply chains and guest travel - is the mountain together we must in our industry climb, as here we find 85 percent of the harms to climate and bio diversity our industry causes and for which we must be held accountable for. Measuring economically allows management to drive on property: 1 operational savings. 2 Review rate structures in a positive direction 3 Be compliant with the sustainability criteria on RFPs and not loose business from corporates. 4 Provide an authentic narrative to support marketing. 5 Enhance brand reputation. 6 Support staff recruitment. Together we can be better custodians of our natural world in which our industry is so reliant. Www.tlcharmony.com #sustainablehospitality#luxuryhotels https://lnkd.in/eCUtUgn3

This article offers a great jumping off point for a broader conversation about what makes for effective positioning and how brand storytelling can strengthen that. My thoughts ran away so I had to turn into a new post...thanks Andrew Benioff for sparking the discussion! First off, I think it’s important to make a distinction between how the author articulates the positioning of these brands, and how the brands themselves might do so. The author does a useful job in pointing out key product attributes that distinguish these hotels, but I think an important piece missing in the discussion is the integration of brand voice and messaging in effective brand positioning. The article equates brand positioning primarily with product differentiation—highlighting luxury, service, design, and amenities as the defining factors. However, this approach oversimplifies the concept of brand positioning, which is more nuanced. Brand positioning is not merely about what a brand offers, but how it communicates those offerings through its voice and messaging. Without executing on these elements, the brands mentioned in the article would risk appearing indistinguishable from one another. For example, both The Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons are portrayed as epitomes of luxury and exceptional service, yet the article fails to articulate how each brand's messaging and voice set them apart. The same can be said for Ace Hotel and The Hoxton, both of which are described as hip and affordable options for the trendy traveler. Apart from the challenge arising from the subjective definition of “affordable” (pointed out by Brigette Harenda), the lack of discussion around their brand voices makes it difficult to see why a consumer might choose one over the other based purely on the attributes presented. While out of the scope of this brief article, another component worth considering in the branding discussion is the role of a compelling brand story. A brand story is not just a narrative; it's a point of view, a belief system, or an invitation for the audience to participate in something bigger than just a transaction. We all know the good ones. Apple has one. And more recently, Aimé Leon Dore has run a master class in storytelling. What stories have we been offered by the hotel brands listed here? While these brands have undoubtedly been successful to date without heavily relying on storytelling, there is a growing expectation among consumers for brands to offer more than just a product or service—they seek an emotional connection. The future opportunity cost of not having a compelling story could be significant. As competition intensifies, what will make a traveler choose Four Seasons over The Ritz-Carlton, or The Hoxton over Ace Hotel?
