The sun had his hat on over the weekend and so did this wonderful display. No doubt certain categories benefited exponentially from the impromptu BBQ's and outside occasions. Here's an example I see all too often as a result of the good weather... I was one of those people in store on a sunny Saturday around lunch, browsing for BBQ essentials and I spotted a really eye catching secondary placement from Asahi Beverages in Waitrose & Partners. The FSDU is in a prime location and had already been well shopped and on the verge of running out of stock. This leads to a few key questions... What becomes of this display a couple of hours later when it's OOS? Does this get restocked by store staff, already under pressure on a busy Saturday afternoon? Does this get replenished by a field team? (in most cases fixed field teams don't work the weekend) Is there even enough stock out back to replenish the shipper? Does this shipper even make it to the end of the weekend without getting broken down? (irrespective of the agreed in-store promo timelines) Is there missed opportunity to increase rate of sale? Why ask Why? Preface: Having developed corporate trainings, policies, SOPs, etc., I understand the need for organizational consistency and compliance. Having said that….. It never ceases to amaze me how many successful retailers and manufacturers (large and small) continue to grow and flourish despite the staunch centralized and unyielding customer service policies. Practicing managing from the top down, lack of empowerment for store managers/ supervisors to make decisions, the many departments that don’t communicate are just a few things that trickle down and negatively impact customers and employees. Short story- I had a whirlpool refrigerator that was under 1 year manufacturer warranty and needed to be returned/ replaced. Sounds simple, right? It literally took 15 phone calls to Whirlpool , 5 to JB Hunt transport (delivered 2 damaged refrigerators), 6 to Lowe’s home improvement (store level), 3 to Lowe’s extended warranty division for a total of 3.5 MONTHS to receive a new unit. My hours and energy spent was beyond ridiculous and frustrating. I dealt with 4 different store management personnel in person who all spouted the same rehearsed line…… this is our policy and I can’t do anything about it. Sad indeed. Takeaways: 1- Companies that insist upon not empowering employees to own and handle issues in the name of “policy” can and will lose customers for life (probably good employees too). I will not buy another Whirlpool appliance and I will not shop at Lowe’s. 2- An inordinate and unnecessary amount of bureaucracy with lack of communication and accountability between departments and individuals will certainly create dysfunction. 3- Large superstores and companies in general do not have to be disconnected from the front line people. They may train on how to sell but not how to handle issues after the sale. I have to assume the culture is micromanaged and non- inclusive; hence unhappy employees and pissed off customers (like me). #poorcustomerservice#corporatebureaucracy

Get business alignment, participate in quarterly, yearly plannings, and ensure the team's voice is heard. 🖥 Evangelize technology strategy as a driver for business flexibility 📜 Help translate the business value with technology strategy. 📊 Be Data driven --------------------- 🤔 Who owns the fulfillment (OMS) data in the front end shopping experiences with backend inventory data? 🤝 No single owner. It has to be a collaboration between e-comm and fulfillment teams with shared accountability. 🖇 Shared OKRs. --------------------- ❔ How does an OMS product manager align many stakeholders in retail and grocery domain? ▶ Immerse in the Business - whether it is store operations, warehouse operations, working with the CSR -customer experience teams, the OMS product manager will gain by the insights. 🗣 Great story-telling skills can help gain that alignment --------------------- 🤔 How to bring the engineering (technology) team to understand the business use cases? 🔊 Communicate and help understand the impact / the business value 💰 Showcase the value of the work from a customer perspective 🏛 Town halls to reinforce the messages #OrderManagementGurus #Retailers #grocers #ordermanagement #OMG https://lnkd.in/eUyTtXqe

Met a store manager in a major retail chain yesterday. His first quote is “I could care less what is in my sets” He has a dry sense of humor and we had a robust conversation about a new brand that had been placed on his shelves in the latest spring reset. His response that "grab and go" single-serve items should be cold was spot-on, but unfortunately, they don't allocate space for refrigeration. It's a watch-out for all of us - just because you get a placement, it doesn't mean the stores will curate or support it. We need to engage at all levels and drive to talk to the consumer, not just ourselves. #retailindustry #consumerengagement #brandplacement #curatedshelves #retailmanagement

Morrisons is reportedly rolling out its 'Buzz for Booze' system to 250 stores, placing spirits and champagne behind glass doors. While this initiative is understandable, it may pose challenges. - Impulse purchases: Added friction risks impacting the spontaneity of purchases. - Promotional performance: Recipe cards, pairing suggestions, and creative displays lose much of their impact when constrained by glass doors. - Shelf space: Restrictions will likely intensify competition for available shelf space. - Field sales operations: Field teams may encounter difficulties in keeping shelves stocked and maintaining strong facings. Producers will need to take proactive steps to assess any impacts and mitigate knock-on effects. - Ensure visibility: Work with retailers to secure optimal cabinet placement and visibility, using data insights to support recommendations. - Reassess promotions: Evaluate how glass-door cabinets affect promotional ROI and negotiate stronger terms and store support. - Empower field sales: Provide field teams with real-time stock and sales data to maximise in-store effectiveness. - Manage inventory: Use daily sales data to refine stock distribution, ensuring availability where demand is highest. 🎄🍾 As the busiest sales period of the year approaches, brands will need to work out the impact of these changes with the peak seasonal trading period.
