This morning I listened to a brilliant podcast with Rob Heron from EY, hosted by Jim Fitzpatrick. Rob really got across how social value is becoming a big part of business today. It’s not just about the bottom line anymore; it’s about being a responsible employer and focusing on environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles. He also mentioned how bringing people back into work who’ve been out for a while allows for innovation and can help drive both inclusion and growth.
Social value is something businesses just can’t ignore anymore. With the Procurement Policy Note 01/21, public sector tenders now need to allocate 10% of their scoring towards social value, making sure organisations are maximising social, economic and environmental benefits. This isn't just a public sector thing! We are starting to see more of it in private sector tenders, too. These days, companies are expected to stick to their values and show they’re making a real difference.
Social value impacts so many areas—education, employment, health and wellbeing, the environment and even supporting micro and social enterprises in supply chains. If your business is looking to grow, embracing social value isn’t just about winning contracts; it’s about building a diverse, engaged workforce and making a positive contribution to society.
If you’re thinking about how to bring social value into your business or deliver real impact, get in touch.

2moThanks for sharing Jo. Can't be a tick box exercise to comply with requirements or a tokenistic approach. Social value needs to be embedded within the heart and soul of the business and indeed business as usual. Delighted to see this focus from within the private sector. This will help support the capacity of social enterprises which in turn will help deliver on social value
