Owner & Creative Director /// LEGENDERRY™ /// Creating Legendary Brands™

I’m a designer at heart and it’s what predominantly my role entails. That said yes over the years I’ve noticed the trend of design/marketing intersecting and I’ve embraced it. Becoming a marketer also has helped me take my skills and job to the next levels. Truthfully designers have always needed to market their work, ideas, skills, etc. I think we’re just hitting a point where marketers are being asked to have design skills too, thank you Canva. While some do, the designers turned marketers will always have the true edge in better designs and user experiences. They are 2 unique fields but learning both will make you into a better marketer and better designer. I truthfully see them as peanut butter and jelly roles!

Graphic Designer at AEO

As a passionate graphic designer who is applying to many jobs right now, I've noticed a concerning trend in job listings: the expectation for designers to double as marketers. While I deeply respect the importance of marketing, it's crucial to recognize that graphic design and marketing are distinct fields with unique skill sets. Graphic designers bring visual storytelling to life, creating compelling and aesthetically pleasing content that aids in the marketing process. However, we are not marketers. It's essential to acknowledge and respect the specialized expertise that each role brings to the table. Let's advocate for clearer distinctions and fair expectations in our job roles. #GraphicDesign #Marketing #JobSearch #DesignMatters
