Things will go wrong... it's how you handle them... Recently, my husband and I were out to dinner at an establishment we frequent several times a month. At the end of our meal, when we asked for the check, we were informed that the POS was office and they were rebooting the server 'would we mind waiting a few minutes?' Of course not, happy to. Twenty minutes later, still no check and we could see from where we were seated the POS was still down. We stopped our served and asked if we could come back the next day to pay for our meal. It took another 10 minutes before our server came back and said yes, but we would need to leave our credit card information. We refused but provided a business card and cell number prior to leaving. What could the restaurant have done better? A. Apologize for the inconvenience B. Provide more regular updates as to what was going on C. Offer a complimentary drink / dessert / etc. while we waited D. All of the above Things will go wrong... it's how you handle them when they do. #customerservice #b2cmarketing

Hear me out... You decide a trip to Tesco is in order today, you know exactly what you want and where it lives in the aisles, so off you go. You arrive at Tesco. The doors are closed and there are 120,000 people waiting at the door with you. 🤔 At this point would you walk away? You spend 5 hours queuing to get in, not being able to do anything else with your day. Then the security guard on the door tells you they think you look funny, so send you to the back of the 120,000 queue. 🤔 At this point would you walk away? You spend another couple of hours queuing to finally get in the store and grab the bits of shopping you need and find there's a similarly size queue at the checkout. 🤔 At this point would you walk away? You FINALLY get to the checkout to eventually be told that the cereal you understood at face value was £2.25 is now £300. 🤔 At this point would you walk away? Due to the commitment and effort you've already given today, you cave in and buy the cereal as you've waited so long for it. All your friends have this cereal, and this brand of cereal has only just been put back on the shelves after 15 years absence. 🤔 At this point would you walk away? You leave the store, feeling exhausted that you've spent far too much of your flexible cash this month, but peer pressure and sheer willpower made you buy the cereal anyway. You think to yourself it may be better to sell this cereal onto someone who has more interest and flexible income. You're told you can only sell the cereal at the face value of £2.25.. 🤔 At this point would you walk away? If none of the above is anyway reasonable to you, why do we allow Ticketmaster to do just that? Going back to a previous post of mine discussing value and perception, and let me tell you, I love Oasis, but rather than spend £thousands£ on resold tickets I think I'll just go buy some Lucky Charms.

My reflection on a busy couple of weeks… I have spoken to a large number of new and existing merchants in June. Many of them heading in to their busiest period of the year. Reliability has been a hot topic, but speed is just as high on the agenda. Whether it be a busy restaurant turning tables faster, a busy pub trying prevent overcrowding at the bar during the Euros, or a retail brand trying to prevent large queues turning off paying customers. All were in agreement. If you can make the transactional process of taking a payment as quick and as efficient as possible you can allow your staff to focus less on apologising for the delay and more time on delivering excellent service that keeps customers coming back for more. I love dining out, and the Mediterranean is one of the cuisines that I enjoy with a nice glass of red wine 🍷, what about you?
