Do internships prepare Architects for practice? In most cases, as an intern you will never meet the client, you will not be invited into client meetings, might not be sent on-site and certainly not manage nor even monitor design or construction budgets. Basically, being completely cut out of the actual business is the side of things. Of course, in the times we live in it is a dream of many to work for celebrity firms. And we all seek experience and looking to build a reputable portfolio. Many students compete for the limited spaces available at the big firms, ready to give their all to work for free in the big firms. And even though this is not the experience they actually need; it is the experience they crave for. #career #internship #engineer #construction

The Challenge of Unpaid Internships in Architecture For many graduate architects, the journey from classroom to practice is filled with passion and promise. I had applied to 400+ firms for Architecture Internships. None of them replied. Though initially I thought to be my bad luck. I realized I had to shift my attitude towards right direction. But what went wrong? Sending the same generic email to every firm was wrong, - no cover letter, - no mention of their work, - didn’t check if they were even hiring! And yes, did not follow the bcc thumb rule as well. But I am past that now, I learnt from my mistake. Are you following the same method? Then please stop whatever you are doing and follow the checklist I have created for you. Which will help you to land a perfect internship with some freebies like - Portfolio tips - Cover letter templates - Checklists to land perfect internship If you are someone who is a students or someone who can share this to a wider student audience, this video is for you. https://lnkd.in/gVQzdC3E #architectureschool #architecture #architecturestudents #checklist #internship #studentresources #architectureinternship #portfoliotips

Looking into changing your career is scary. For the last several years, I've been trying to find a new path. I've completed online courses, I've reached out to people here to try to talk to them about their careers, and I've even applied to random jobs to see if I can get an in. But here I am, still in the same place I was. I want to get into a design field, like interior design, but I don't really want to go back to school to learn a new industry because I feel like I have skills that translate. I've looking into internships but they always say they're for students only. But, I feel like that would be a great place to start. I could work part-time and full-time over the summer to get hands-on learning. Has anyone ever seen internships for non-students? Or is this not something that companies do? #careerchange #interiordesign #internship #design
