It could be as a result of contributing more often to private repositories. Not all private repository contributions show up on your GitHub contribution history. As much as this should not really matter, it's still very important. Not every recruiter will be patient and/or experienced enough to tell how good an engineer is when he/she has such an empty contribution chart on GitHub. Do your best to keep your GitHub contribution chart as green as possible - always. The balance is possible.

In the 3 years I've been at Patreon, I've developed a lot of empathy for small companies that are operating with large code-bases that have a long-lived history (11 years for Patreon!). Bryan Hughes wrote about the team's effort to adopt Next.js and it's a great read to get a glimpse of the practical challenges faced by companies at a similar life-stage. Separately, if these types of challenges interest you — we are hiring!
What does a successful migration to Next.js look like? For us, it involved a sidecar architecture to keep things running smoothly without blocking product development. Check out how we navigated this complex challenge: https://lnkd.in/e5_Pq-6T P.S. We're hiring frontend engineers: - Senior Frontend Engineer, Creation https://lnkd.in/eYtmDJHz - Staff Frontend Engineer, Insights https://lnkd.in/e8XfV2wx - Staff Frontend Platform Engineer https://lnkd.in/egdTrxVs

Senior Software Engineer wanted! Hey everyone, we’re hiring at Big Tech™️ and, of course, we’re looking for a very “special” kind of developer. Here’s what you need to land this dream job: 1️⃣ Must solve the world's most complex algorithm in 30 minutes on a whiteboard, using dry-erase markers that are almost out of ink. Your code must look like it was written by a machine with perfect syntax, no typos, and, bonus points if you turn the whiteboard into a full-blown Picasso. 2️⃣ At least 17 years of experience in a language that’s been out for only 5 years. Yes, we’re looking for time travelers. 🚀 3️⃣ Be an expert in EVERY framework. React? Of course. Vue? Definitely. Angular? Absolutely. Oh, and why not throw in Svelte, Solid, Ember, Backbone, and that obscure one we’ll ask about just to see you sweat. 4️⃣ 100-step interview process: First, an HR chat, then 4 technical screens with completely different teams who will definitely not ask the same questions. After that, a full day of coding tests and the infamous “culture fit” interview where we’ll ask about your spirit animal and favorite pizza toppings. 🍕 (Hint: It's Hawaiian.) 5️⃣ Must love meetings: If you're the type who likes uninterrupted coding, sorry, this isn't the place for you. We’re firm believers in "collaboration"—which means back-to-back meetings that will ensure you only code between 2:00 am and 4:00 am. But hey, if you survive this marathon, you’ll get to work on... drumroll... probably some minor bug fixes in an over-engineered system written in 2003. 🙃 If all of this sounds like your cup of tea—or you just love jumping through flaming hoops—please apply! Just be sure to have your coding algorithm tattooed on your arm before showing up. Good luck, you'll need it! 😜 #Hiring #TechJobs #DeveloperLife #WhiteboardWarriors #CodeSweatAndTears #InterviewMadness

📣 HIRING POST 📣 So much has changed at nsave in the last year all due to the stellar team we have, and I’m so excited to be expanding the team again! We are hiring for 2 positions: full-stack (frontend leaning), and backend. Check first comment for links to apply. We’re looking for the best and brightest engineers. Let me give you 3 reasons to join us: Himanshu Gupta: An incredible engineer, combining banking and founding experience. Whatever he needs to do, he’ll figure out a way to do it. Whatever it is you need to do, he’ll help you figure out a way to do it. He’ll get you going with engineering, tell you about his life philosophies, and much more. Clara Gila: A stellar engineer and researcher who have worked on a range of projects from distributed high performance computing to designing writing and thinking tools. She’ll send you research papers and resources to find the better solution. She'll always look out for ways to help you and the team improve, and build a more sustainable product. She might also teach you some Rust, and tell you how horrible Typescript is while she’s at it. 🚀 James McKenzie: An amazing full-stack engineer with extensive background in fintech. His expertise knows no boundaries from fixing the details on our landing page to helping on devops and infra. Whatever Typescript (among others) tools and tech you’ve heard about, he’s heard about it, and probably has tried it. He’ll find and fix any and all bugs no matter where they are in the stack. Finally, a bonus reason: you get to have your imprint on the culture of the engineering team and the company as a whole. We’re always looking to build a better culture, a more capable engineering team, and a team that is proud of their work ❤️ .

tl;dr: I want to meet a talented backend engineer to enhance ranking and personalization at Constructor, global remote, $90-110k USD + bonus + stock options + WFH stipend. At Constructor, we're pioneering the world's best and most cutting-edge product discovery for ecommerce businesses. We have a clear vision, inspiring leadership, solid financing, competitive market positioning, and we're at a fantastic stage as a company with around 200 people (not too many to be bogged down by bureaucracy, and not too few to be chaotic). And our Ranking and Personalization team is at the forefront of it all! We have ambitious plans for growth and expansion, and we need a strong backend engineer to help bring these plans to life. What we offer: ⭐ Exciting challenges (from highload to machine learning and personalization algorithms) ⭐ A dynamic team comprised of individuals who make working together an enjoyable experience ⭐ Excellent tech stack ⭐ Awesome PM 🌚 What we need from you: ⭐ Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, paradigms, and modern approaches for building high-load products ⭐ Hands-on experience with setting up and improving CI/CD pipelines ⭐ Proficiency with Python and, as a plus, compiled language like C, Rust, or Go. ⭐ The desire to move quickly and a sense of beauty: it's important for us to test hypotheses as quickly as possible (to capture market share first) while also striving not to sacrifice quality, accuracy and scalability. Link to the formal job description can be found in comments. If this sounds like you, feel free to DM me to discuss further details. If it's not you, then like, repost, and recommend to friends. If you're shy, a simple "a friend saw this in their feed and thought of me" will do. Can't wait to hear from you!

News from Pathway — we are hiring! Looking to add another engineer to our team — a Middle Frontend or Fullstack (React / TS / Node). In short — we want to create the coolest platform for unmoderated user research, and we really need help: we're growing fast, have lots of ambitious plans, and we're running out of hands. Check the comments section for a link with all the details. I'd be super grateful if you could share this or send it to someone who might be interested! And feel free to drop any questions. #hiring #frontend #fullstack

Genuine question - how much of the uptick in hiring interest for full stack developers is due to employers thinking they can hire 1 person to do 2 jobs? I'm curious because I can see that being an easy misunderstanding for some, given the broader skillset of the applicants they're looking for. In the end, you will still need 2 full stack engineers to do the work of 2 people. The benefit may be that those 2 devs can move between front/back end more flexibly, but how much better is that than having 1 front end and 1 back end dev working in tandem with their more specialized skillsets? And is that flexibility necessary? I want to understand the mentality behind this trend so I can better navigate the space. (Or learn more backend lol.) #frontend #backend #fullstack #hiring #recruitment
