Imagine not having full control over your own living conditions and lacking the funding or support to do anything about it. Imagine feeling powerless to give your children clean air to breathe. Feeling hopeless that things will never get better. I've seen it firsthand and it's a real problem. I need to ask you a favour. Remote areas don't have the same kind of access to the services they need to keep their living conditions healthy. Those services are too far away, too expensive or both. I've developed an Indigenous training program to empower these communities to fix their homes and buildings. It also opens the door to career and business opportunities. This is where you come in. Let's make a difference together. Tag all the housing managers, pre-employment services managers, and band council members you know. This program is the way to building stronger, healthier, empowered communities so let's continue spreading the word. https://lnkd.in/giHrm2Js #indoorair

Inverclyde, it's time to look forward. We can't keep living in denial and relying on outdated industries. The decision-makers must put in place solutions that address current problems. Moving to Glasgow could mean better opportunities, careers, and stability for families. Inverclyde has so much to offer with two airports just 45 minutes away, a city of 1 million people on our doorstep, 5 trains an hour, and numerous express buses. It's time for Inverclyde Council to showcase these positives and encourage people to look beyond the area for work and at the same time make it their home. With renovated school estates, outdoor activities, and decent housing, Inverclyde should be the type of area that people flock to. If the current Inverclyde Council leadership can’t do that, they should move aside. The last thing we need is being lectured by people( guys) that have presided over two decades of decline. Completely out of touch and out of ideas. #Inverclyde #Glasgow #digitalworkforce #workingathome #workingfromhome
It's been a while but I think this is worth a post. I am saddened to read of the closure of the Greenock one-to-one/T-mobile/EE/BT Call Centre (those who know, know!). An opportunity there over 15 years ago lead to the start of my career. I was told by rather a few that call centre jobs were 'dead-end'. How wrong those people were. For some, the site has offered a good, sustainable and meaningful job in a great environment, close to home. For others, it has allowed so many possibilities to start a career, whether in Training, HR, Business systems, Change, IT, technology, you name it. There are many on my Linked in network who started where I did. But what is even more sad, is that the site is part of the heart of Inverclyde. despite not having worked there for over ten years, any time I go into Greenock I meet someone I worked with or trained and through the site, I built a network of friends I would never otherwise have met. It instilled a sense of community in a place ravaged by the decline of traditional industries. Whilst I'm sure someone somewhere thinks this is a genuinely great move for the company, not only will it have an immediate impact on the people working and living in Inverclyde but will have a lasting impact on the community as yet another big employer leaves. I hope the government and BT take on board the feedback and somehow to try reverse this decision and keep a big employer in an area that really needs it. We owe it to the people working there and for future generations who will yet again, have to leave town to get a good job. https://lnkd.in/e6h7jKGq

🌟 Celebrating 20 Years of Social Work: From Adversity to Advocacy 🌟 As I reflect on my two decades as a social worker, I am reminded of the journey that brought me here—a journey shaped by my own adversity, which I now proudly define as lived experience. It’s this very experience that has fueled my passion and transformed me into the unwavering social advocate I am today. 🌿 The Roots of Resilience: Two decades ago, I stepped into the world of social work, not fully realising how my own struggles would become my greatest asset. Those moments of hardship—the sleepless nights, the uphill battles—have become the bedrock of my resilience. They’ve taught me empathy, compassion, and the unwavering belief that every individual’s story matters. 🌎 A Global Odyssey: My journey has taken me across three countries, each with its unique challenges and triumphs. From bustling city streets to remote communities, I’ve witnessed the resilience of the human spirit. I’ve learned that social work transcends borders—it’s a universal language of care and connection. 🤝 Meeting Extraordinary Social Workers: Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of meeting incredible social workers. They are the unsung heroes—the ones who tirelessly advocate for vulnerable populations, who lend a listening ear to those in crisis, and who ignite hope even in the darkest of times. Their contributions are immeasurable, and they inspire me daily. 🌸 Today and Tomorrow: My passion to support others burns brighter than ever. Whether it’s empowering a struggling family, advocating for policy change, or simply being a compassionate presence, I know that social work is my life’s purpose. And as we celebrate World Social Work Day, I stand alongside my fellow warriors, committed to making a difference—one life at a time. 🙏 To all social workers out there: Thank you. Your work matters. Your heart matters. Together, we create ripples of change that touch lives far beyond our own. #WorldSocialWorkDay #SocialWorkMatters #Advocacy #LivedExperience

We’re excited to share our newly adopted Imperial County Good Neighbor CBA Program, which is a vehicle for industry to outline their commitments to the Imperial County community. This (optional) Program is open to any existing or new company in the County. Especially unique about the Program is that it requires engagement of industry with at least 7 diverse #community categories! The Good Neighbor CBA Program has six key pillars that the County of Imperial has established, which provide a framework for the commitments that industry, who opt into this Program, are making to our community. These pillars include Local & Priority Hiring, Workplace Safety & Quality Standards, Education & Skill-Building, Community Engagement, Advancing Infrastructure, and Supporting the Local Economy. The Good Neighbor CBA Program benefits both industry and community! Key community benefits of a #CBA include commitments to local job creation, enhanced workplace quality and safety, support for small businesses, improvements in infrastructure, and educational partnerships. For developers, CBAs have many benefits including attracting public-private partnerships and fostering community support. After a Press Conference on September 10, 2024, which reviewed the new Program, local industry and community partners weighed in on the Good Neighbor CBA stating: Controlled Thermal Resources Holdings, Inc. (CTR) is delighted the County of Imperial has adopted a Good Neighbor Community Benefits Agreement program,” said Rod Colwell, Chief Executive Officer of CTR. “We are excited to be one of the first companies to opt into this program, and I commend the Board of Supervisors and their team for developing a framework that is aligned with the Department of Energy’s best practices. The County of Imperial has spent years building comprehensive plans to ensure sustainable growth, good-paying jobs, and educational opportunities stay in Imperial County, and I can tell you, I haven’t seen any other county in the United States do this. Your representatives are setting new benchmarks here.” “The EnergySource Minerals (ESM) team is very excited about the Good Neighbor Benefits Agreement Program and the support it will lend to help advance the goals here we have in Imperial County. We are dedicated to a better future in Imperial County as we look forward to continuing to work and collaborate with the community to ensure we are listening and can continue to be a good industry partner and do our part to further Imperial Valley's goals” said Elizabeth Espinoza, Community Affairs Liaison of ESM. “It is inspiring that CTR, as a Good Neighbor, has reached out to multiple sectors, communities and groups in the Imperial Valley. Developing a community benefits agreement is an important step to making Imperial Valley a better place to live for all,” said Roque Barros, Executive Director of Imperial Valley Wellness Foundation. #GoodNeighborCBA #ImperialCounty #energy #community #collaboration

Happy International Social Work Day, today is an opportunity for all social workers to celebrate their achievements and contributions to the lives of children, families and communities facing adversity. This year’s theme is ‘Buen Vivir: Shared Future for Transformative Change’, which is adapted from the global agenda. The day calls for attention for further development in the social work sector as well as the promotion of equality and social justice. ‘Buen Vivir’ translates to ‘life in harmony’, to inspire social workers to acknowledge and empower Indigenous wisdom and harmonious coexistence with nature! We additionally recognise and acknowledge the need to decolonize social work practice and acknowledge the harm and damage social workers to our First Nations people and emphasise the need to adopt innovative, community-lead approaches that are grounded in the wisdom of our First Nations people. Social work is a transformative profession, and we must continue to examine decolonizing our practice, to encourage affirmative change that nurtures mutual respect and sustainability.

When looking at social sustainability in construction, key things to measure are worker safety, fair wages, community involvement, and diversity. These aren’t just about checking boxes—they’re about creating safe, fair, and inclusive workspaces. Prioritizing these helps us build trust with the community and sets up lasting benefits for everyone involved. Social sustainability means making sure projects positively impact people, not just the environment. #FIU_CM #FIUCM #BCN4570 #Sustainability #FIUConstructionManagement #ConstructionManagement #FIUMossschool #FIUsustainability
