Before joining Amazon, I had - Applied for 700+ jobs - 70+ interviews with 60% rejection - Asked for 1000+ referrals - changed strategy multiple times.   Here's what I learned:   1. Believe in you. If you are confident enough, no one can stop you.   2. Rejection will make you stronger and give you redirection to strategize yourself and more learning opportinities.   3. “Why did I leave Amazon?” I've received a lot of questions about my recent move from Amazon to Uber. Amazon was a great place to work, and I learned a lot. But after 2 years, I felt like I wasn’t growing anymore, and the team environment wasn’t the best fit for me. Even after trying a new team, things didn’t improve, so I resigned. Though I had a MAANG name on my resume, the job search wasn’t easy. I didn’t receive many interview calls at first. Here’s how I tackled it: → I worked on improving my skills. → Reached out to senior SWEs on LinkedIn for advice and networking These efforts paid off, and I received 7 job offers, including one from Uber. My heart breaks as I see the extraordinarily large number of ex colleagues, direct reports, managers and trainers that are being retrenched. The rapid development of technology and the ever-increasing business demand to cut costs is leaving human beings and their families in an incredibly anxious and testing time. As you all embark on your new journeys in an effort to find employment, I would like to leave you with a couple thoughts. Don't be afraid to start from the bottom, you not going backwards, you are beginning your comeback. Do thorough research on the organization before you apply, I know this is difficult when you need to put food on the table but a career partner that values people and communities first, these organizations will always grow and succeed because success is a byproduct of motivated and happy people. Real Steel is forged in fire, find peace in the ambiguity of the unknown because nothing grows in stagnant water, and what will be, will be as long as you put one foot in front of the other.
