Is lying on your resume okay? Let's discuss the truth. Crafting a resume that stands out can feel daunting. The temptation to embellish accomplishments or tweak details to fit a job posting is real—but at what cost? Here's what you need to know: 📌 Even a small lie can lead to big consequences. Background checks, reference calls, or a deep-dive interview can easily reveal discrepancies, damaging your credibility and reputation. 📌 Some industries, like finance or healthcare, treat resume misrepresentations as serious offenses, and falsifying official documents could even lead to legal trouble. 📌 It's okay to highlight your skills confidently—but honesty always wins. If you're unsure about an achievement or detail, leave it off. 💡 The Good News: Many job postings list "ideal" qualifications. If you're missing a few, focus on transferable skills and your willingness to learn. Employers often value capability and potential over perfection. 🦾 Pro Tip: Struggling to showcase your skills accurately? Use Jobscan's free resume builder to create a resume that reflects your true strengths and gets past ATS filters. LIE IN YOUR RESUME? This is easy... its a quick way to present yourself qualified for any job listing you are applying for. But should you do it...? NO! Lying on your resume is the first step towards disqualifying yourself for the job. I mean, it can get you the interview but what happens when questions are thrown at you during the interview ... Or maybe you were lucky to bypass the interview stage and actually got the job, what happens when, on the very first day of resumption you are expected to perform a task using the skill you claimed to have but you can't because... Well, that's straightway "fired." So what can you do instead of lie on your resume...? Here's a few... 1. If its a skill you can learn in a short period, you can indicate in your cover letter saying that while you do not currently have the required skill you are willing to learn and being a fast learner you are sure you will gain competence within ... amount of time. [This can only work if its not one of the major skills you are expected to hit the ground and run with]. 2. Always up skill. Its always better to be job ready. Most of the qualifications required for a particular kind of role is usually common no matter who is hiring. So what you can do while you are still seeking employment is go to job boards, search for related job roles, and check for all the common requirements among them. Where you still lack knowledge you can take online courses and get yourself ready. Some will even offer certification. The good thing about this is that it sets you up for even better positions with better pay than what you would have worth with your current qualifications. One more thing you can do about a job you are under qualified for is to not apply. Do not apply until you are sure you've got all it takes and can confidently course the hiring manager for not Considering your application. Besides that, the time you will waste crafting resumes and cover letters for jobs you are not very qualified for can be better invested in learning the right skills.. What do you think... #resume #resumewriter #coverletter #jobhunt
