Sure, this week's #wine news roundup had to headline David Beckham's Malbec gift to Messi, but there is more afoot in the wine world than celebrity gifting. There is talk of the 2024 Douro harvest being "worse" for growers than the already difficult time they had last year; Rioja growers are angry that wineries have been given leave to divert excess production to table wine; in France, some southern growers have diversified into pistachio production. Meanwhile, Castilla La Mancha posted impressive export stats for the first four months of 2024 and the Chablisienne co-op is going from strength to strength. The Wendy's Company plans to close 140 underperforming locations in 2025. Despite this, Wendy's reported same-store sales growth of 2.8% globally in the third quarter, with increases of 2.2% in the United States and an impressive 7.8% internationally. Kirk Tanner CEO Wendy's said "focus on building customer love by – Fresh Famous Food, Made Right". In comparison, the Dallas-based parent company of Chili's and Maggiano's Little Italy reported same-store sales growth of 13% systemwide, with Chili’s seeing a remarkable 14.1% increase.
