Ask your marketing / growth agency this asap. If they don't have a good answer, you're in trouble. I call it The Table Test - "If your agency sat at a table with 10 other agencies, what could you say no one else can?" In an era of AI, copycats, and few leaders, marketing is becoming commoditized. Marketing's become a sea of sameness. Most brands are blending in vs. standing out. A total blow for growth. But your marketing / growth partner is a huge opportunity to change this. But most don't have what it takes. To find out, run The Table Test.

Marketers, your most valuable skill in the AI era is strategic thinking. You don’t need to be a Head of anything to master it. Not everyone is responsible for crafting a high-level strategy, but everyone, at every level, is responsible for strategic thinking. I see it time and time again: investors have an idea on how a business should be marketed, the founders bring it to you and you start executing it blindly. I’ve been there too. But judgement is crucial in every aspect of our work, and knowing your customer inside-out is your job. Execution without judgement weakens long-term success, leading to projects that don’t align with your goals, thus diluting the quality of work in higher-impact areas. It’s not just your annual goals or OKRs that need to illustrate your customer focus or commercial awareness, but every single touch point you have with your target audience. Strategic thinking is an all day every day process, not just annually or quarterly. It involves (the hard task of) challenging initiatives, wherever they come from, if they won’t get you where you’re headed. It demands being proactive and rigorous in reviewing every.single.marketing. channel, always. Your role as a marketer is to ensure every activity or customer touch point serves your overarching objectives. I really enjoyed Marketing Against the Grain's episode on this topic with Wes Kao, an important one for marketers at any stage of their career. Thoughts?

I often hear companies discussing marketing as a highly scientific endeavor, emphasizing the indispensable role of AI and social media for success. Some companies firmly believe that once a product or company has the right profile and sufficient followers on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, WeChat, or Facebook, the sales aspect of marketing becomes easy. However, merely investing in social media advertising and relying on follower engagement or running competitions and giveaways without securing permission for user data is a uninspired approach. I advocate for companies to prioritize their product or service and nurture existing customer relationships, followed by expanding their customer base and exploring new distribution channels. At NS Media, we specialize in enhancing existing customer experiences, acquiring new customers, and innovating distribution strategies. Additionally, we assist companies in asserting ownership over their customer permission and activity data. If you're interested in learning more, feel free to reach out, and let's discuss how we can support your company's growth.
