Today Macau hosted the 43rd edition of the Macau Marathon. Like many major events, roads were closed, people rerouted and the city buzzing with people. We headed out for lunch and what would normally take me 5-10 minutes took me 40 minutes. We we diverted, blocked and basically had to circle the area to get to our destination. Living in a small country, traffic is not normally a problem and something I am not used to anymore. But I understood, the race was over, people going home and cleaning underway. What surprised me was the honking, the impatience, the aggressive driving and intolerance was unbelievable. We want the benefits of a event we have to become an event city. If we want to be a destination that attracts “mega” events we are going to have to change the way we are. Even with the best planning and logistics you will have congestion and a bit of inconvenience but you have to consider the big picture: 🇲🇴The economic impact 🇲🇴The revenue generated 🇲🇴The job creation 🇲🇴The tourism 🇲🇴The induced tourism I attended a talk on Friday last week and in a presentation by Darren Burden and he mentioned that Hong Kong 🇭🇰 will attract over 800 000 visitors attending "Mega Events” in the first half of 2025. You have #Rugby7’s #ColdPlay and many more. The region is ramping up. We have to do so much more to be competitive not just as a destination but as a citizens of a "Events City” 👏Congratulations to all those that completed the Macau Marathon today. Great achievement. #beyondevents #megaevents #HongKong #Macau #GBA #eventmindsets #goingbig

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to catch up with an old friend in Macau 🇲🇴 Alan Wong and I worked together on a few projects and have stayed connected over the years. Unable to catch up during the Covid lockdown (even though he was just a short distance away in Hong Kong 🇭🇰) - we make time to get together every time we are in the same city. Alan was giving a lecture at the #VMU presented by #UFI that a few of my colleagues attended. Post the training Alan proactively set up a #LinkedIn group that would allow the team to share experiences and in the process help promote the MICE industry and our destination #Macau It’s been interesting to see how members on the group engage, share and learn. Alan and I both believe in the power of LinkedIn for many reasons and always question why some regions are so much more proactive than others. We understand our community and industry in China 🇨🇳 are unable to use the platform as we do - we may not have the volume of users compared to #India However when we look at Macau 🇲🇴 and Hong Kong 🇭🇰 vs Singapore 🇸🇬 , I believe our industry and community could do so much better in Macau and HK. The 100k follower question I guess is why don’t we support and promote each other. I use #Singapore as an example but it could be #Thailand , the #UAE or any other country that uses this platform to profile the #MICE industry. They support, share and engage with their colleagues and industry partners. If we want to compete at a global level, we have to start promoting and profiling destination and industry. I work for an Organization that employs 20k team members- let’s say 20% of them are active users of the platform and support our brand - we can easily start to expand our reach. The same could be said for Sands China Wynn Palace MGM MACAU Melco Resorts & Entertainment SJM Resorts - together we have the critical mass to help promote the destination. Promoting our City, Products and Uniqueness can’t only be the responsibility of #MGTO and #IPIM and other government departments - it’s has to be a community of like minded industry professionals. Let’s help position our industry globally together! #supporteachother #mice #liveevents #icca #ufi #sandschina #galaxymacau #melcoresorts #sjm #mgmchina #mgto #ipim #macau #hongkong #gba

#Macau provides tourists with a valuable and memorable experience, whether they are visiting historical sites, activities in nature, and indulging in #shopping or gambling. Although there are many lavish places in Macau, the majority of its #international #guests solely visit to gamble and shop. Tourism being the major industry in Macau has impacted its cultures and its gambling industry. The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has revealed that Macau is the city most dependent on tourism with more than half of its economy directly supported by visitation. Macau has grown into a famous gambling hub in Asia, making the gaming #industry a vital economic sector in the city and an important source of government revenue. Macau’s outstanding nightlife, along with luxurious hotels and casinos are affordable to a greater extent compared to other tourist destinations, even in locations near historic spots and peninsula areas. It is commonly known as “Monte Carlo of the Orient” and “Las Vegas of the East,” both names playing into Macau’s casinos. As the Macau market continues to grow, many opportunities await, such as the opportunity to become a Mail Boxes Etc. Master Franchisee, contact us to know more!

TIME FOR THAILAND TO MOVE BOLDLY FORWARD A convention and exhibition center in Phuket, would be a great economic catalyst for the popular tourism destination and a massive boost for the business event sector. It would accelerate the local economy by attracting large events, conferences, and exhibitions, which bring in tourists, exhibitors, and delegates who spend money on accommodation, dining, transportation, and shopping. Phuket is primarily known for its beaches and natural beauty. Adding a convention and exhibition center would diversify the tourism offerings, making it a year-round destination, not just a seasonal one. Hosting international events would increase the visibility of Phuket on a global scale, attracting more attention from potential investors and could have a knock-on effect for other industries, such as Maritime and other. A center would create employment opportunities and could function as a “hospitality training center” at the same time. Interested parties who wish to partner on a development are welcome to contact me and take advantage of a great business opportunity. #Islandeconomy#businesstourism #investment#hospitality#china

Last week, as a local resident of Shanghai, I took my international friends on a tour around the city. I noticed that, following the pandemic, Shanghai has begun bustling with activity once again. Shanghai has not only welcomed a large number of Chinese tourists from across the nation but has also seen an influx of international visitors from around the globe. Shanghai's rapid recovery in tourism can be attributed to several key factors. Firstly, as China's financial hub and a forefront of the country's international image, Shanghai has made significant efforts in hosting international visitors. Its status not only enhances its appeal as a must-visit destination but also positions it as a city that's quick to adopt and implement measures designed to welcome tourists back safely and efficiently post-pandemic. The city's infrastructure, from world-class airports to extensive public transportation networks, coupled with a commitment to maintaining high standards of hospitality, plays a crucial role in its swift rebound in the tourism sector. Additionally, Shanghai's diverse cultural attractions, from historical sites to modern architectural marvels, continue to draw visitors, further supported by targeted marketing campaigns aimed at both domestic and international travelers. Finally, it's essential to acknowledge the significant contributions of the Shanghai government towards tourism destination marketing and public relations. Their dedicated efforts have been instrumental in enhancing the city's appeal to both domestic and international visitors. #Shanghaitourism #Chinainboundtourism #ChinaTravel #ShanghaiTravel #China #Shanghai #Tourism #ChinaCulture

Nice recap of the farewell cruise in Hong Kong in the Standard newspaper: "Senior executives of multinational companies rave about the trip and look forward to visiting Hong Kong again for hiking and local food A popular choice for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE), Hong Kong is also a twin hub for international shipping and aviation. It recently hosted the “14th Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference”, a two-day regional annual event that brings together 2,200 participants from more than 30 countries, including senior executives from renowned overseas and mainland Chinese companies. The government is proactively promoting mega events, including organizing large-scale international conferences and exhibitions to attract high-yield visitors to Hong Kong. According to HKTB, the number of overnight MICE visitors in the first nine months of 2024 reached 980,000, which is 80 percent of the same period in 2018, making it the fastest recovery tourist segment. HKTB has successfully bid for and facilitated more than 80 large-scale MICE events to be held in Hong Kong between 2024 and 2027. The number of participants is expected to exceed 240,000, of which at least 200,000 will be visitors from mainland China and abroad. This will help cement Hong Kong’s position as the World’s Meeting Place and the Events Capital of Asia."
