Our 7L51/60 four-stroke test #engine has successfully conducted its first combustion with #methanol at the test bench in Augsburg, Germany. The test engine is the central part of a research and development program to design a retrofit package for the conversion of conventional MAN four-stroke engines already in the field to #dualfuel methanol operation. Our customers will initially be able to convert existing MAN 48/60 engines to the latest 51/60R-DF-M engine type with methanol capability. MAN PrimeServ plans to convert the first four-stroke engines for a pilot customer in autumn 2025, at which stage the package will be made available to the general market. Retrofitting existing four-stroke engines to methanol operation has a substantial emission saving potential already in the next years. With the new retrofit option we will be able to upgrade fossil-fuel powered #ships to climate-neutral methanol operation and contribute to reaching IMO #climategoals. ➡ WinGD completes type approval testing for new short-stroke engine size ⬅ Another step is taken in the development and further enablement of alternative fuels in marine engines, now that SGMF member, WinGD Ltd. has successfully completed type approval and factory acceptance testing for its X52-S2.0 engine. This engine will be bringing a new option to shipowners in need of compact, medium-bore two-stroke engines. The tests at Yuchai Marine Power Co (YCMP) confirmed the engine’s #performance and #compliance, while the prototype project validated its ease of assembly and maintenance. The X‑S series succeeds the well-established RT‑flex50 and RT‑flex58 engines and is available in 52cm and 62cm bore sizes, with confirmed orders already for #diesel, #LNG and #methanol configurations and an #ammonia fuel option under development.
