Plan A isn’t the most important…. It’s all about Plan B. This is correct in many walks of life, think football for example. 12 months ago both Hamilton and Dumbarton had plans and aspirations of winning their respective leagues, but it wasn’t to be. Now whatever the reasons, bad luck, injuries, things not quite clicking - they both find themselves not fulfilling plan A - time to move on to plan B! The end result of promotion is the same but you have to be focused, have the ability to look at the bigger picture, and the drive and determination to play on beyond the league end to get the end result. Both teams done this fantastically and have now found themselves exactly where they want to be! It’s a lesson, an outlook, a set of skills that can be used in many walks of life! All the best to both wonderful clubs Hamilton Academical Football Club Limited and Dumbarton Football Club - great clubs with great managers at the helm, not forgetting countless other great people involved at both clubs. Check out The Lowball Show Podcast where both clubs feature! https://lnkd.in/eu_viEwx Remember Plan B! It’s a great skill to have!

In the latest episode of series three Pez & Geoff answer more questions sent in by parents and coaches along with discussing some of the chapters in Pez's new book (Did You Win, Did You Score...?) The questions are listed below. I love players that can go past other players and mavericks of the game. Do you think this country will produce more flair players in the future or has the game changed now…? Chapter 3 - Embrace Mistakes and Failure I’m a coach for an U8s team and in training I play lots of small sided games. The players don’t really have set positions and it’s all about contact time with the ball and having fun. However, I have at least two players who tell me that they’re not allowed to play in goal when it’s their turn. One even said “my dad will kill me!”. It leaves me in an awkward position. I just wondered what your thoughts on this are? Chapter 40 - What to do if your child wants to quit I had a brief run through the chapters in your book but I am unsure if there is anything on dealing with on field ‘trash talking’ from opponents? this has occurred a few times recently to my youngest boy and has made him very upset and in tears. I believe it is just a tactic to get under his skin and affect his performance. Any help would be appreciated in how to block this out mentally. Chapter 114 - Don't be a PlayStation parentI How late is too late to join a grassroots team if you’ve decided you want to play professionally? I have a 13-year-old who’s suddenly decided that’s what they want to do and is all they talk about. Please send any questions you want answered/discussed to Pez at perry@pezzazstreetsoccer.com or 07818225592 This episode was sponsored by Perry's new book: Did You Win, Did You Score...?How to help your child succeed at football and lifehttps://lnkd.in/g_Nb8VcU Your hosts are:Perry Cocking (Pezzaz Street Soccer & formerly Southampton FC) www.pezzazstreetsoccer.com https://lnkd.in/emUj6Pnf Geoff Bonner (Wessex Futsal Club) - https://lnkd.in/e_KXYk33

Outcomes vs Process Last night I went to see the behind-the-scenes documentary of Collingwood's dramatic and successful 2023 AFL (Australian Football) campaign. One point that interested me with my work hat on was how the central figure of the coach reconciled two seemingly contradictory aspects of the game: 1. A focus on process over outcomes. Whether his team won or lost, the coach would emphasise that there were areas for improvement, and this was helpful, especially given the public and high-pressure nature of professional sport. 2. A reminder not to forget about outcomes! When the team did poorly on certain metrics and yet managed to win, or when his team was on a losing streak, he reminded them that ultimately they needed to "find a way to win", and that other than the final scoreline the stats didn't matter. My reflection: In professional sport, the objectives are fairly obvious: * score more goals than the opposition to win games * win enough games and the games that matter to win the whole league. So it can be easy to over-focus on these outcomes at the expense of process and game-plan, which is where constituent improvements tend to occur. In organisational work, the objectives are not as clear, and the complexity can be very great indeed, so one can lose track of outcomes - hence the emphasis on customer focus, moving the needle (outcomes) etc. It's a "both, and" kind of world, but simple advice often relies on correction to a bias — one way or the other — rather than an essential truth! Do I recommend the documentary - only for Collingwood die-hards! ;-) #leadership #outcomes #process #flagpies

Why don't we look under the hood? I have many calls from professional footballers, and they often present me with problems. The problem is usually performance, on the pitch. After digging deeper. THAT'S RARELY THE PROBLEM. It's many times, personal problems, their relationship, overwhelm. It's something underneath the hood that no one goes into. I've had players come to me after seeing someone and they've only reacted to the on-the-pitch problem, they have been told to visualise how they want to play or been told to meditate for a bit. It astounds me that a club that has an asset and more importantly a human being has never noticed this. Performance has so many different aspects to it. Not just what you do on the pitch. What needs to change in football? And how does it change?

For all my small business people who are promoting deals for the big game day, or others that may just need a reminder. The big wig football people really don't like people using 'Super Bowl' in their advertising if they're not paying the big bucks to use it. So much so that they REALLY enjoy suing the pants off people. As we approach the big game, it's an important reminder that this is, unfortunately, a term they shouldn't use directly. Variations or puns of the name are acceptable though and should be used to the fullest extent. 😂 I've provided a list below of variation examples, but this isn't an end-all, be-all list. Recommended words to replace it with: 👉 The Big Game 👉 Gameday 👉 Gametime 👉 The Big Matchup 👉 Kansas City vs San Francisco 👉 February Football Finale 👉 The Game That Shall Not Be Named 👉 Championship Sunday 👉 Ultimate Showdown 👉 Gridiron Classic 👉 The Game of the Year 👉 Final Matchup of the Season 👉 Football Championship Game 👉 The Biggest Night in Football What are some of your favorite ways to announce deals for the big day? Hit me with some puns!

Five Life Lessons from Football: Life is like a football game: if you're not getting tackled, you're probably not carrying the ball. Embrace the challenges—they mean you’re moving forward! Football shows us that the clock is always ticking. But remember, a lot can happen in the final seconds—so don’t quit before the whistle blows. In life, just like football, sometimes you have to take a few steps back (and punt) to move forward. Just make sure to get the ball back later! In football and in life, it’s important to keep your eye on the ball. But remember, sometimes the best play is just dodging a tackle. In life, like football, there are plenty of timeouts and half-times. Use them wisely to strategize, catch your breath, and then get back out there ready to score.
