Added a new case study to my Portfolio! The focus of this case study looks at how might we use evaluative research in combination with human-centered design thinking to improve the user experience and workflow for a check out. The unique aspects of this project included a condensed timeline, a tight nit group of diverse stakeholders and decision makers, and a lot of unique data points that were leveraged to understand the current experience and where we could make the largest impact. Please check it out and let me know what you think. https://lnkd.in/gFC93Rpu

🖤 Use High Contrast Designs Why? Improves readability, reduces extraneous load and ensures content is accessible to all learners. How? Stick to simple colour schemes (e.g., dark text on a light background) and avoid unnecessary visuals. Clarity benefits everyone! #EdTech #MarginalGains #TopTips 🎯 #CognitiveLoad

One of my talks about digital designing with words got its second airing at UXW Stockholm — thanks for having me Jane Ruffino. Re-visiting the 7 pillars of Aristotle’s theory of poetics has helped me contextualise my content design practice in another useful way. There’s no punchline, these ancient texts really have things to teach us. You can see Aristotle, the little tinker, doing a cheeky peek-in at the workshop window. #ContentDesign #A11y #UCD #AccessibleContent #HCD #ContentIsDesign

Look at a sentence, a paragraph, whatever, and ask yourself: is it really necessary? If yes, is it possible to condense the text? After condensing it: can it be condensed even further? #contentcreation https://lnkd.in/gK2RYCxE

How can you place users at the heart of a service before a tender’s even been awarded? One answer is to create accessible bid proposals that empower diverse stakeholders from the beginning, so that they can engage with a service before a contract’s even been awarded to deliver it. Making sure bid documents are accessible and inclusive for all stakeholders, including people you're supporting, families and diverse audiences, isn’t just good practice – it results in clearer documents and more engaged readers. Recently, we created an "easy read" version of a bid proposal so that people being supported and families could engage with the bidding process. Creating accessible bids means thinking about people who have visual impairments and who are neurodiverse, and includes: - Using clear, concise language and avoiding jargon - Structuring content logically with descriptive headings and subheadings, as well as logically ordered lists and clear tables - Optimising colour contrast and formatting for visual accessibility - making your bid visually clear and not cluttered, and avoiding long blocks of text - Providing alternative text descriptions for images and graphics - Using a ‘sans-serif’ font without too many flourishes, text size 12 or higher - Many document tools have accessibility checkers which can help too Accessibility shouldn't be an afterthought - it's an opportunity to put your audience at the heart of the process from the very beginning. #A11Y #Accessibility #ServiceDesign #BidWriting #Inclusivity
