SVB's Future of Climate Tech Report came out yesterday and is well worth a read. A few key takeaways and reflections: Takeaways from report: ⚡Valuations-wise, climate tech today is – on average - a more attractive place to invest vs 2021/22 ⚡ As always with averages, the reality is more nuanced. Whilst Seed and Series B stage deal valuations are currently at historic highs, Series A and C+ deals are down vs 2021/22 ⚡Valuations are currently still above where they were in 2020 (on average) ⚡C+ stage companies have seen the most significant valuation contractions, mirroring the same trend in tech more generally ⚡Funding volume in 2023 was the lowest in 5 years going from $57bn in 2021 to $27bn in 2023 Reflections: ⚡IMO today’s valuations are merited. The magnitude of the market opportunity is now being correctly priced in ⚡Whilst total climate tech funding dollars have fallen off a cliff relative to 2021, Climate tech funding has fared much better than wider VC/ PE as a whole ⚡ Indeed, Climate Tech now represents ~10% of all dollars invested in VC/PE. It is no longer a niche asset class Link to report: https://lnkd.in/dwzGVi-X

In Q2'24, climate tech funding plummeted to its lowest level in four years. Amid the funding decline, investors are favoring smaller mid- and late-stage deals. However, they are still willing to place early-stage bets where they see strong opportunities. Dig into 137+ pages of venture trends in climate tech here: https://cbi.team/3SOLAE9

We're at the halfway point of a critical decade for climate tech. The industry is about to be confronted by Trump 2.0 and is already besieged by sagging investments (last year saw an estimated $43 billion, down from more than $127 billion in 2022). To figure out which sectors will thrive and which will falter, Bloomberg Green spoke with a variety of investors and analysts. What's in? Curtailing AI's emissions and climate tech that doubles as national security tech. What's out? Green hydrogen and direct air capture. Our Founder & Managing Partner, Melvyn Yeo, shared how the convergence of #AI and #materialscience is leading the #breakthrough discoveries of new materials. An important area this #innovation is going to make a difference is in bringing down the cost of #carboncapture capabilities. The advancement of #computationalpower is also helping to drive #scientificdiscoveries and enhance engineering capabilities which could lead to higher probabilities of esoteric #deeptech like #nuclearfusion to commercialization.
