Singapore and Malaysia continue to strengthen our economic ties to drive growth across our industries 💪📈 In Kuala Lumpur last week, EDB’s discussions with our friends and partners spanned electric vehicles (EVs) 🚗, innovation 💡, technology 🤖, and natural resources 🌱, all reflecting the dynamic opportunities in our region. With Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) CEO Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim, we continued conversations on collaborations between the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and MIDA to jointly promote the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). The JS-SEZ aims to improve the ease of doing business and the cross-border flows of goods, people, and services. Together with the upcoming Rapid Transit System (RTS), it will facilitate greater economic integration between Singapore and Johor 🤝 #JSSEZ #RTS #Singapore #Malaysia #SoutheastAsia #collaboration

While touring Kuala Lumpur tonight, I got the opportunity to see the Twin Towers. While this isn't the first time, today is unique. Kuala Lumpur is clearly booming as a metropolis. The rising tourist influx from China and other East Asian countries will provide new revenues to Malaysia, but over-reliance on KLIA could harm future growth. I believe Malaysia requires another international airport with comparable connections in order to boost both its economy and tourism revenue. Subang will be too close and compete with KLIA. Senai would be great to supplement its SEZ, but they will need to move quickly. 2030 will be a target, can Malaysia embark on transformation growth? Depends on polices made today. On April 26, 2024, the Futuru Líder Ba ASEAN (FLBA) Malaysia Team convened with the Association of Malaysia Alumni in Timor-Leste (AMATL) at Hotel Timor to forge insights and prepare for their upcoming engagements in Malaysia. The meeting was rich with practical advice and culturais insights aimed at equipping the FLBA team for their Malaysian visit. A significant focus was on safety and security, AMATL also highlighted the necessity of adhering to local customs. The FLBA team discovered Malaysia's emphasis on pre-university schooling and university support for career preparation. Despite Malaysia's educational strengths, a knowledge gap about Timor-Leste was noted, sparking discussions on fostering awareness and cultural exchange. This interaction not only enhances the FLBA team's readiness but also fosters stronger ties between nations, illustrating the power of knowledge and cultural exchange within regional contexts. #FuturuLiderBaASEAN #FLBA_to_Malaysia #AMATL #ASEAN #CulturalExchange #TimorLeste #Malaysia
