One of the burdens of caregiving -- besides overwhelm -- is loneliness. Our members who are caregivers find the connection with their Keep Company group helps extinguish that sense of isolation. It's so important to recognize and make visible the absolutely essential (and largely unpaid) work family caregivers are doing - this November, and every month.
Today marks the beginning of National Family Caregiver Month as recognized by President Biden's Proclamation. Mrs. Carter often said, “there are only four kinds of people in the world–those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers.” Our nation's 105 million family caregivers provide billions in value of unpaid care and deserve the support and resources they need. They deserve to be seen and recognized for the incredible contribution they provide to their family, friends, or neighbors. RCI and 166 other organizations have called upon President Biden to establish an Office of Caregiver Health at the Department of Health and Human Services in the Office of the Secretary. No better time than this very meaningful month. Thank you, President Biden, for designating National Family Caregiver Month and for encouraging "all Americans to reach out to those who provide care for our Nation’s family members, friends, and neighbors in need to recognize, honor, and thank them." Thank you also to the many bipartisan elected officials and 166 organizations who have supported the establishment of an Office of Caregiver Health. https://lnkd.in/geYMn3ZS
