The Journal is hiring! The Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety is a peer-reviewed publication, growing in scope and impact, dedicated to elevating innovative solutions; examples of scalable, successful implementation; editorials; and case reports designed to support health care professionals in providing high quality, safe care to all patients. We are seeking an enthusiastic and energetic Deputy Editor with experience in academic publishing, either as an editor or as an author. This individual should hold a doctoral degree in a health care field. As part of our team of Deputy Editors, this role will share responsibilities for strategic direction of the Journal, handling the peer review and revision of submitted articles, soliciting papers and editorials, and ensuring that each issue meets our rigorous editorial standards. This is a paid, part-time, contracted position. Specific responsibilities include: • Meet weekly with the Editor-in-Chief (EIC), Deputy Editors (DE), and Senior Managing Editor (SME) • Share submission “triage” responsibilities with the other DEs every fourth week by conducting an initial review of submitted manuscripts • Identify key topics and work to solicit articles on these and other topics • For articles assigned to an Associate Editor (AE), review their invited reviewers, decisions, and revision letters for quality control and to provide feedback as needed  • Read revised articles prior to final acceptance and identify remaining substantive editorial issues that need to be addressed by the SME • Review accepted articles to decide which should have editorials, news releases, or blog posts, and assist the SME to disseminate articles via social media • Identify authors for editorials, review draft editorials, and discuss needed changes with authors • Participate in Editorial Advisory Board and AE calls approximately 4 times per year • Attend one-day in-person annual strategy meeting Estimated time commitment: 5 hours per week.
