I love talking about maternal mental health, but a topic that often gets overlooked is the mental health of fathers. This month is #MensMentalHealthAwarenessMonth and June 17th is International Father's Mental Health Day, which provides an opportunity to talk about how perinatal mood and anxiety disorders like postpartum depression can also affect fathers. In fact, experts believe that 1 in 10 fathers experience postpartum depression. Postpartum depression in men often goes undiagnosed because people are unaware that fathers are impacted and men may feel weak if they acknowledge their struggles. It's important to know that experiencing any mental health conditions is not a sign of weakness. Don't forget to check in on the fathers and men in your life. If you are someone you know is struggling, reach out for help. I'm also including a link to resources for fathers dealing with postpartum depression in the comments below. #MensMentalHealth #PostpartumDepression #FathersDay #MentalHealth
