Stanford University researchers have developed an augmented motor that makes them at least 50% more efficient than standard electric motors. The increase in efficiency originates from using a new type of actuator, a device that uses energy to make things move. This new actuator works by harnessing the ability of springs to store energy when they are forced into an unnatural position, and to release the energy once they are allowed to restore their natural shape. For example, when the actuator is lowering something heavy, the springs can be engaged so that it stretches, taking some of the weight off the motor. The spring can then be locked in the stretched-out position, storing the energy that can be used to assist the motor in another task later on. I think this new development is very promising, as more efficient motors can allow robots and machines to travel further and operate for longer. Excited to see the application of this technology in a real-world setting! https://lnkd.in/gZ3aWsKa Video from Stanford researchers. #Robotics #Motor #Innovation

Humanoid robots will enter the market at a cost-capability of under $10/hour for their labor, on a trajectory to under $1/hour before 2035 and under $0.10/hour before 2045. The critical disruptive components of the new labor engine include: Sensors (cameras, tilt sensors, pressure sensors, microphones, accelerometers, etc.) to take in sensory data Computer hardware and software to process sensory data with powerful AI Actuators to move and interact with objects in the environment Batteries and power electronics to provide energy for hours of sensing, computing, and moving Each of these technologies has gotten dramatically cheaper and more powerful in recent years, setting the stage for the disruption of labor.
This time, we are the horses: the disruption of labor by humanoid robots
