Some of the fantastic folks who yesterday renewed their mental health first aid accreditation in Launceston. A dynamic, interesting and passionate group of people who are clearly well prepared to support people around them. Nice work folks. More course dates available at https://lnkd.in/gweqsr2E

🌟 Championing Mental Health First Aid: A Case Study with Britton and Time Solicitors 🌟 On my training courses I am always asked about the best ways to let an organisation know about health and wellbeing initiatives. While many rely on emails, they often get lost in the shuffle of daily tasks. Britton and Time Solicitors have set a remarkable example of how to champion mental health first aid both internally and externally. Instead of solely relying on emails, Britton and Time Solicitors have taken a proactive approach by actively promoting their mental health initiatives on LinkedIn and other social platforms. This not only enhances visibility but also demonstrates their commitment to mental well-being to a broader audience. Here's why their approach is so effective: Visibility and Engagement: By sharing their mental health first aid training and initiatives on LinkedIn, Britton and Time engage with their employees and the wider community, showing their dedication to mental health. Leading by Example: Their active promotion serves as a powerful example to other organisations, illustrating the importance of mental health support and encouraging others to follow suit. Breaking the Stigma: Publicly discussing mental health initiatives helps break down stigmas associated with mental health conditions, fostering an environment of openness and support. Building a Positive Culture: Consistent communication and promotion of mental health support build a culture where employees feel valued and supported. Let’s take a page out of Britton and Time’s book and explore diverse and effective ways to communicate our mental health initiatives. Together, we can create supportive and thriving workplaces. #MentalHealthFirstAid #WorkplaceWellbeing #MentalHealthMatters #EmployeeWellbeing #Leadership #MentalHealthSupport #BrittonAndTime #ChampioningWellbeing

Last week I had the opportunity to participate in and complete a Mental Health First Aid Training. Much like CPR + First Aid, which I am also certified in, I now have the knowledge and tools necessary to help those who may be suffering from a mental health challenge, illness, or crisis. 🫂 In a previous post, I share my takeaways. Today, I share this: 💡 I am both Depressed + Empowered. And the more I am able to accept and embrace the both/and in life, the more my mindset leans toward "Empowered." While I am a Yoga + Meditation + Mindset Coach, I am also a human being with my own trauma to heal from, mental health challenges to work through, and depressive thoughts to navigate. I DO NOT have it all together. My ducks ARE NOT in a row-- they're free range. 🦆😉 💪🏽When we are both honest about where we're at AND equip ourselves with tools and resources to help ourselves and others, we become a powerful force for those in our realm of influence and an incredible asset to our workplaces and communities. But we need both! The tools AND the willingness to be honest. I fail all the time AND I have found some success, all because I am willing to risk being vulnerable, let go of how I might be perceived by others, and keep learning, growing, AND resting. 📚🌱😴 All this to say, we are allowed to be humans who need help AND be humans who offer help at the same time. So, if you are struggling, I encourage you to offer yourself grace. The goal isn't perfection, it's learning how to be an excellent human being, lean into what moves your heart, and embrace your whole + imperfect self. ➡️ Self-awareness starts with self-acceptance. ➡️ Deep and meaningful connection starts with vulnerability. ➡️ Empathy + Compassion for others starts with mindful listening-- attaching no value judgment to what you hear/observe. This is not easy work, but if we want to create and live in a more heart-centered world, this is necessary work. ❤️🩹 Thank you all who lead from your humanity and heart. Never doubt your value. We need you! 💖🦋
Congratulations to our newly certified Mental Health First Aid champions that are now ready to take valuable skills, knowledge and resources out into the Brown County community. Thank you to all who attended for your commitment to making a difference as a result of this impactful training! #MentalHealthFirstAid

Why Mental Health First Aid? We can talk about Employer Duty of Care and HSE guidance, but essentially it's about people! Each and every one of us! As humans, we all have times when we dip (both physically and mentally), and these are the times when having someone who both cares and is trained to support us really matters. Life and workplaces have changed rapidly over the last few years and it has taken its toll on many people. We are seeing higher levels of stress, depression and anxiety and we need to continue to build workplaces and communities who understand, are open to talk and properly educated to support ourselves and others. If you are interested in finding out more about Mental Health First Aid (MHFA England) then please email (sarah@livewellconsultancy.org) or message. My next open virtual courses are Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th March Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th May (both 9.00-4.30) #mentalhealth #mentalhealthfirstaidtraining #peoplematter #livewellconsultancy

I’ve spoken often of the value of mental health first aid training, but don’t just take my word for it … I came across a wonderful review of such a course, written by Scottish lawyer Gordon Lennox. He attended a a course offered by the Law Society of Scotland and , in his own words: “In the legal profession, that can be notoriously competitive, nobody wants to show any signs of weakness or vulnerability … For me, it taught me that in this fast paced world and the work environments we live in, we need to look out for each other. How to be more sympathetic to what people have going on in their lives and to know what the signs are when something is dragging them down.” A mental health first aid course teaches you to understand what mental health is, how to recognise when someone needs help and how to signpost them to the appropriate professional support. Gordon concluded the article by saying; “I cannot recommend the course highly enough and every workplace should consider having someone who is trained in Mental Health First Aid. Personally, I now have a far greater understanding of mental health, and can recognize the signs when someone is not coping particularly well but more importantly, it has given me the confidence that where required, I could intervene and maybe ask someone the one question that could open the door to the help they need!” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/e_xWaKcH #mentalhealthuk #workplacementalhealth #mentalhealthfirstaider

Do you struggle ‘to say the right thing’ when someone is not quite feeling OK? Most people do. Reactions include ignorance - avoiding the topic or even the person altogether. Or silver- lining the problem by say something that starts with “well, at least…”. My favourite - not- there are people worse off than you” None of these reactions are helpful Mental health first aid course can teach you not only about different conditions but most importantly what to do when someone is going through hard times. Get in touch with Jenny Legg to book on a course. #mentalhealthfirstaid #wellbeingatwork

Today is 'My Whole Self Day'. This is a campaign set up through MHFA (Mental Health First Aid) England. Its aim is to empower us to embrace every part of ourselves and to be able to talk freely about mental health and ask for support when we need it. I recently renewed my MHFA certificate, as I feel it's important for us to look after ourselves, our loved ones, our colleagues and our students. This certificate does not make me a trained therapist, just like a First Aid certificate doesn't make anyone a trained doctor. However, the course gives you tools and resources to be able to talk with people in a caring way and offer possible suggestions of where they could get help if they need it. So today, I'm inviting you to spend 5 minutes thinking about 5 questions, to focus on your own wellbeing. Feel free to share any thoughts in the comments or, if you'd prefer, send me a private message. #mhfa #mywholeself #wellbeingmatters #excellenceinenglisheducation

Most people are familiar with the idea of physical first aid courses that teach the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies and provide a first aid response across a range of different situations. Mental Health First Aid training adopts a similar approach. Using a practical, skills-based action plan, participants learn the skills to recognise and respond to someone experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received, or the crisis resolves. Individuals who complete Mental Health First Aid training are known as MHFAiders. Equipped with the skills to listen, connect, and offer support when it matters most, MHFAiders play a vital role in reducing stigma and promoting pathways to support for those experiencing mental health problems in our workplaces, communities, schools, and tertiary institutions.
