Are we witnessing the death of Australia's global mining leadership? In the space of a few short weeks; we have witnessed: 1. A Unilateral, ideological decision by the PM on Jabiluka; now the subject of legal action 2. Mass outcry about the potential re-unionisation of the Pilbara (and other minesites). 3. Broad concern over the "Nature Positive" changes to the EPBC Act; so much backlash that Labor have been forced to make some changes and trickle feed them in. 4. Tanya Plibersek's cancellation of the Regis Resources gold project in NSW. No wonder the mining Industry is turning its back on Australia for new investment. Make no mistake - all Australians standards of living will be negatively affected by this.

I was thinking it is dying ... from its own insatiable greed; its inability to read what is happening & move with the future in mind (that's probably only been the last 100 years or so); by ignoring the wishes of the people and the need for businesses to do the right thing by community ... in favour of lining the pockets of owners & vested interests; by its wreckless endangerment of people & culture, poisoning communities, waterways & landscapes ... by its blowing of shit up regardless of its moral ... and often legal... obligations ... By its monopolistic & bullying tactics & tendencies; its arrogance & ignorance ... ??? Na... It couldn't possibly be those things ... Its all the fault of the Labor Party... Or was it the one-armed man???

It’s all a matter of balance. Every thing doesn’t revolve around money. Keep in mind that all natural resources belong to all of the Australian public. As such they should be used to the best advantage of the Australian public.

Inner city voters still don't get it - you turn off mining, gas & agriculture in Australia and you turn off the economy. Australia is driven by the regions not by the metropolitan centers!

And dont forget the recent ruling by NSW state bodies against the development of the Bowdens silver mine - Australia’s largest undeveloped silver resource. One of the protesters said “who needs silver anyway?”….ironic given that my son’s year 12 chemistry curriculum is now infested with wokeist (and totally unscientific b***sh1t) ideology that certain elements including silver are “endangered”. Yes - in Victoria now even chemical elements can be put on the endangered list. Its blatantly wrong and deceitful, but if as a year 12 student you question it you get failed. There is no longer room for reasoned discussion, just totalitarian dogmatic compliance. The watermelons in our kids classrooms are sewing the seeds of destruction of our western democracies. Infact, democracy is already dead because the majority no longer have any say.

In 2023 the mining industry paid over $30 billion in royalties (plus all of the employees pay tax as well). Our 5 biggest exports are coal, iron ore, gas, gold and wheat. For all of those people who want to shut these industries down, where will you make up the revenue so as to fund health, education, the NDIS, aged care etc. Catering to a loud green minority who use the legal system to stifle progress for the country. Make no mistake, most Australians want these industries to prosper. Gas is a key transition energy source that went a long way to replacing coal in the US.

My heart absolutely breaks when I witness what this cretinous government is doing to our country. From the demolition of our mining industry, to the complete destruction of our energy sector and their total failure on national security. They must be turfed out at the next election and let them rot in the annals of history as the worst government this country has ever seen

One of the most understood industries that I got direct exposure to through my grandparents and being born on the Copper Belt in Zambia. The problem is what I label as the Thunberg effect where yelling at a bunch of adults in a patronizing way got in the way of actual logic and unrealistic altruism and ideas then get in the way of what the planet needs for societies to maintain themselves. At PDAC 2024 in Toronto a young person at a protest was yelling "end mining" using a steel loud hailer while other youngsters were filming it with their smartphones with their videos ultimately terminating at a data center through copper wires - the irony. I believe in a clean planet like everyone else but we need to integrate what society needs in terms of raw materials with a clean way of getting them and that is what Mining companies are actually spending a lot of money on. The industry is misunderstood and taken for granted unfortunately. Oil and Gas and Pulp and Paper have similar challenges. Don't go the same way as South Africa did with unrealistic Government policies and I am typing this while in Durban visiting family and see the effects of Resource based economies fiddling with that they are good at. If it ain't broke...

Total Rubbish. No mining leaders here! All God Given. Australia is one big lump of minable stuff. Coloured red coz of the DSO Fe! Why they call it the "Lucky Country"? Largest wool clip, wheat & meat production in the World with no processing or dominant Agri Companies. Elders should have bought out Phibro/Cargill by now, it has not. Govt puts North/South rail thru middle of Oz, guess what? = they find one of the largest phosrock deposits in the World (for its world largest AGRI producers) are you kidding me? Lucky Country. It is so easy to become a mining billionaire in Oz. look at Twiggy - but go to a challenging mining address like Africa and survival rate of Oz miners is less than 1%. Again look at Fortescue, BHP or Rio there. Just like Oz Govt were not financial master navigators GFC (it was the commodities God gave you), neither is there any mining leadership wizards in Oz (unlike say Friedland Ivanhoe who set up OT in Mongolia for Rio). Investors come here thanks to awesome infrastructure & rule of law the people of Oz gave these mining dudes and the resources God gave. Miners are tenants of the resources and the people the land lords. I would put up the rent / Wind Fall Tax Dude! To thin out the herd/ find some leaders!
