Effective: Delivering care based on scientific evidence, ensuring services are given to those who can benefit, and avoiding unnecessary or inappropriate services. Patient-centered: Focusing on care that respects patient preferences, needs, and values, allowing patients to guide clinical decisions. Timely: Minimizing delays in care for both patients and healthcare providers, which can otherwise lead to harm. Efficient: Reducing waste, including that of resources like time, materials, and energy, in the delivery of care. Equitable: Guaranteeing that the quality of care remains consistent, regardless of a patient’s personal characteristics such as gender, race, location, or income level. These aims serve as guiding principles for a well-functioning healthcare system that strives for quality and fairness in patient care.
