Transitioning to the green sector? 🌱 Here are some top tips 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝𝐈𝐧 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦! I just attended a webinar where LinkedIn experts shared valuable advice for candidates breaking into green jobs and gave insights into how the LinkedIn algorithm works. Some key takeaways: 1️⃣ 𝐎𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐞: Make sure your LinkedIn profile is fully up-to-date and includes the skills recruiters are searching for in your desired role. Highlight these skills in your Skills section 🛠️, and weave them into your experience and profile summary for added context. 2️⃣ 𝐃𝐨 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤: Unsure about what skills you need for your dream green job? Search 🔍 for people already in the roles you’re aiming for. Check out their profiles—what skills do they list? What was their previous experience? Use this as inspiration to shape your own profile and career narrative. 3️⃣ 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: 📢 Start posting to build your visibility and brand yourself as an expert in the field you want to transition into. The LinkedIn algorithm favours genuine content and advice over self-promotion. Engage with comments 💬, connect with others in your space 🤝, and stay consistent with your posts. 4️⃣ 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐬: 🔗 Networking is key! Join LinkedIn groups that focus on the green sectors and sustainability. You’ll find like-minded professionals, industry insights, and opportunities to build connections in your new field. 5️⃣ 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐚 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡 : 📚 For even more targeted guidance, check out LinkedIn’s Green Job Checklist: https://lnkd.in/epD4j5Wd 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞? Write in the comments. Sharing is carrying! Huge thanks to the LinkedIn team, Aneta Francis and Jonny Wing for giving the webinar, and to Terra.do for bringing together so many experts during Europe Climate Career Week! #GreenCareers #CareerTransition #Sustainability #ClimateJobs #LinkedInTips #Networking #CareerGrowth #ClimateAction #Community #PersonalBranding #WorkAlly #ClimateCareers

Tips on how to get a job in sustainability 🌿 I receive messages daily from people asking for job opportunities or tips on how to work in sustainability, so here are a few tips. 1. Prove to me that you are passionate about sustainability. I receive many applications from people who have no clear experience in sustainability but really want to have a job with an impact. That's okay. But there are still ways to prove to me that you are applying for this job because you are genuinely passionate about sustainability. You could enroll in a free online course about sustainability on Coursera, or become a volunteer for an NGO and add that to your CV. No matter what it is, if nothing on your CV shows that you really care about sustainability, it will be hard for me to believe it. 2. Network, network, network I know you've already heard this a million times but networking with people in the field is one of the best ways to get a job. Attend sustainability fairs like ChangeNOW, join online events from Terra.do, and reach out to people on LinkedIn for tips. Many jobs are simply not posted on LinkedIn and will never be, so create your own opportunities. 3. Inform yourself about current sustainability trends Make sure to keep up to date with the latest sustainability trends to impress your recruiter. Spoiler alert: if you are looking for jobs in Europe you should definitely look into what the CSRD is. There are many great newsletters you can subscribe to like Brightest's newsletter, Green Digest, or ESG Today. Hope this was helpful and looking forward to seeing more people joining this field of work 🍃 #jobs #sustainability #esg

How I Landed My First Sustainability Role – And How You Can, Too! In 2021, fresh off the heels of the first Trump administration, I landed my first role in sustainability. 🌱 I vividly remember the collective anxiety around rebuilding institutions and realigning policies to tackle the climate crisis. But I also remember the incredible validation and sense of purpose I felt when I joined a team that valued my skills—even though I didn’t have a degree in climate or energy. Despite the shifting landscape, there are still plenty of opportunities to work in sustainability, climate, and energy. And I’ve learned a few things along the way that can help you land your own green job. Here are 3 top lessons from my job search: 🧠 Lead with Curiosity: Approach your job search from a place of curiosity. This allows you to evaluate roles and connections objectively, ensuring they align with your values, interests, and career goals. 📝 Double Down (or Up) on Your Skills: Roles exist because there are problems to solve. Your goal should be to make sure you have the skills to solve those problems. Refine your existing strengths, and acquire new skills to meet the current needs of the market. 👩🏫 Act Like You Already Have Your Ideal Role: Do the things you'd be doing in your dream job now. If your dream role involves working from home, emailing prospects, or hosting workshops, start doing those things today. This may sound a bit controversial, but it’s been a game-changer in my own career journey. Finding a green job is more complex than ever. You’ll face challenges like ghost job postings, competing with referred candidates, and finding roles that aren’t explicitly labeled as “green jobs.” And now, with administration changes, it’s natural to wonder if positions will be funded. But here’s the truth: How you find an aligned role has almost nothing to do with those challenges. 🔴 Want to know more? Join me next week, Saturday, 12/07, at 2:00 PM EST for our monthly #OpenDoorClimategroup call! I’ll share actionable strategies to help you land a sustainability job—no matter the political climate. You’ll also get your questions answered and leave with a clear action plan to kickstart your green career. 👉 Register at the link in the comments! Looking forward to connecting with you and helping you take your next steps in sustainability! #GreenJobs #SustainabilityCareers #ClimateAction #JobSearchTips #PublicPolicy #CareerDevelopment #ClimateCrisis #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #CareerGrowth

🤚 I think we need to stop focusing on the fact that employers are asking too much from job applicants for sustainability roles. It's not constructive 👷♀️ Job seekers have several variables under their control, but how companies hire talent is not one of them. For some key roles, that intense job description may be justified - sustainability is complex work - and in those cases, the employer will hire someone with the experience and subject matter expertise they need, great! But what about the other positions? That manager role that asks for 5 years of experience in a framework that's only been around for 3 years ⁉ and wants someone who can play 3 musical instruments while tap dancing? 🎶 That's different. Someone who doesn't tick every one of those boxes will eventually get that job. And we should spend a LOT more of our time talking about how THAT person gets the job even though they haven't done ALL THE THINGS listed in the job description. You know who gets jobs like those? The people who: 🔦 Learn what those roles *actually* require to be done well and honestly evaluate their fit 🎓 Do some upskilling to fill any major technical gaps 📚 Tell their story in a way that shows how their past successes tee them up to excel in the role, even if that past work was in a different context 🤝 Network effectively to get in front of the right people in the right way THIS is what we should all be talking about. I feel like the conversations on LinkedIn cover networking and some upskilling, but not nearly enough of the evaluation, fit and storytelling. Do you agree? Disagree? We talk about all of these things in depth in the #DesignYourClimateCareer program that I co-founded with Diego and Yvonne Espinosa at Voiz Academy. You get step by step guidance for the job search as well as support from and connection with a community of amazing humans along the way. The next live cohort starts on July 13th and you can save 30% with TK30 https://lnkd.in/gpe2tFxK Do you think we can change the way companies hire for sustainability talent by continuing the conversation about kitchen-sink job descriptions? #greenjobs #sustainability #training
