It's been a year since you chose to end your life, and this has also become the one day of the year I allow myself to give in to grief and the negativity that surrounds me, to feel the pain and sadness of it all, and let it consume me. Though we didn't end on happy terms, our shared joy and time are all that I choose to remember. I've channeled this energy into motivation to do more for people like you, who are constantly fighting with their mental health challenges and suicidal thoughts. When you left me, you told me that I would go on to many great things, and I hope the day will come when I make you proud. Wherever you are, I hope you're at peace, no longer in pain, and most importantly, happy. For some context, my most recent ex-girlfriend ended her life on this very date in 2020. At her funeral, her mum told me she was glad to know her daughter had friends. But that wasn't true because up till her funeral, she wasn't a big part of my life. When things ended bitterly between us, I always thought she went on to a better life because that's why she chose to leave, to find herself and what she wanted. For a year or two, people telling me about her indicated that she indeed was living a happier life without me. But I guess what we see on the surface doesn't always reflect reality. I'm not saying my being there would have changed things, but I will never know if it might have. Suicide is real, and you don't need a mental health condition to be contemplating suicide either. Reach out and just ask if the people around you are okay. That's the least we can all do. #suicide #suicideprevention #suicideawareness #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #psychology

Thank you Jonathan for sharing a really personal part of your life with us! Unfortunately, mental health is often overlooked and sidelined. Keep on this good work and continue to inspire people like us to keep discussions going!
Thanks for your courageous sharing, Jonathan. I am sorry for your pain and loss... it's never easy to lose someone we love and care about. Glad you are able to care for yourself on such a difficult day. Looking at your various contributions to mental health, I think she is already proud of you. :)
Heartfelt. Thanks for sharing Jonathan, and keep on keeping on in the work you do to create awareness for mental health issues. We need to talk about it more.
It takes courage to share something private public. Thank you Jonathan.
Yes. Always. You can't do wrong by caring. I am a suicide survivor too.
