The Daily Hive says that we need more ridings in Vancouver. Granted, the population is growing there, but the MLAs are bumping into one another while walking to their favorite coffee shop now. Meanwhile, the rural MLAs are driving for hours to meet their constituents. There is something wrong with the fairness of the old Representation by Population system of selecting MLAs. We have a biased management of our resources by people who are barely connected to the resources. We need to have MLAs selected by the time invested per constituent. That would give us more MLAs in the rural ridings and a better balance of influence of people's votes on issues important to their lives. Give a like to support a change in representation selection. https://lnkd.in/gYTZjg7P Note this point is highlighted below. https://lnkd.in/gKtz9PP5 Although there are 93 districts across the province, there are eight across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley that could dictate proceedings and determine whether the NDP returns with a renewed mandate or the Conservatives get a shot to form a government for the first time in almost 100 years.

We are in election mode already, with announcements and signals from some part of our great state almost every day of the week. The ABC’s Antony Green pointed out recently that ‘the political geography of Queensland for state elections is that Labor must hold seats in regional cities along the state’s coast to win a majority.’ This would seemingly include Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Mackay, and Bundaberg seats. Theoretically, there are not enough seats in inner-city Brisbane to compensate for missing out on victories in regional cities in this scenario. The battlegrounds for 2024 would therefore normally be two-pronged: up north and inner Brisbane (where the Greens could play an interesting role). Everywhere else is usually pretty well accounted for. However, the recent by-election swings have introduced a significant element of unpredictability. These swings, could potentially move the safely contested seats, as they did in 2012 and again in 2015, and were among the biggest in electoral history! One went the way of the LNP, and one went back to Labor. Current polling suggests the former is most likely on this occasion, but there is still a long way to go, and as Elle Goulding likes to remind us, ‘ Anything could happen!’. At Q Shelter we’ll be talking to anyone aspiring to political office, that has an interest in continuing to solve for our #Housing and #Homelessness challenges. Whilst there is already generational investment occurring right now, we have decades to catch up on, and there is still a lot more to do 🙌 🏡 🗳️ #2024StateElection #Queensland #LotsToPlayOut #HomeMatters #BetterTogether

Spokane Washington is the leader in zoning reformation and is an early adopter of Washington State’s Middle Housing Laws (MHL). The MHL allows up to 6 homes per lot. We are going to market with our S2 Duplex units on existing lots that provide either 3 units (existing home on lot), or 4 units (empty lot). The 4 unit (empty lot) approach creates indivual units for rent or that can be sold for $221,800. That’s how you start solving the housing crisis. Zoning reformation and infill construction.
This is happening, folks. Media outlets around the country are devoting resources to reporting on the #housingaffordability crisis and the solutions to it. NAHB will be beating this drum through the elections. More coming tomorrow! https://lnkd.in/gwNz6cuj

This morning at 8.10am Michael Gove and Matthew Pennycook were both interviewed (very well) by Amol Rajan on BBC News on the Todat programme about the Conservatives and The Labour Party housing policies. While it's an interesting listen, it's also a shining snapshot of the paralysis in the housing market. Gove speaks about what has and hasn't been achieved. Pennycook (our likely next Housing Minister) speaks passionately and credibly about Labour's plans. However, he is no different to all the other housing ministers in waiting before him, grand ideas, but little or nothing will get achieved. Why? He thinks that a national assembly of town planning officers working together is the answer to finally crack the housebuilding problem. Can you imagine that? Decades of meetings, zero action. Death by committee. I don't doubt his passion or intention, but his idea is at best naive and at worst foolish if he thinks there is any chance of herding the planning officer cats into cooperating with each other. It would almost certainly make things even worse. Nothing would make me happier than being wrong about that. But in the meantime, while we wait for that failure, the population continues to spike, housing shortages get worse. Never think that things can't get any worse. They can and they will (imo) under this rudderless, inexperienced incoming Labour government. The interview Starts at 2h10m into this recording. https://lnkd.in/ejrzR8_P

Election day is almost here, Richmond Valley residents! 🗳️ As we approach this important civic duty, I want to remind everyone that voting is not just a right - it's compulsory. But more than that, it's our chance to shape the future of our community. Remember when you first moved to Richmond Valley? The sense of belonging, the community spirit? That's what we're protecting and nurturing with our votes. Here are some key points to keep in mind: 1. Check your enrollment status if you haven't already. 2. Research the candidates and their platforms. 3. Plan your trip to the polling station - maybe carpool with neighbors! 4. Bring appropriate ID. Question for you: What local issues are most important to you this election? Let's show up in force and make our voices heard. Our community's future is in our hands. #RichmondValleyElection #YourVoteMatters #CommunityEngagement #LocalGovernment
