Outside Bend City limits in permissible zones of Deschutes County, the maximum size for an ADU is 900SF of usable floor area, with a minimum lot size of 2 acres (5 acres in South County)
If you are considering building an ADU on your property, ensure it is the right size. Here in Bend, we have a limit of 800 square feet on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) per the city's zoning code. The limit was set to balance the need for affordable housing options while maintaining a neighborhoods' character and integrity. The city council took into consideration factors such as parking, density, and privacy when making this decision. The 800-square-foot limit is consistent with the Oregon State Building Code requirements for ADUs.
